Copper Cut Tacks are a favorite fastener used by boatbuilders, woodworkers, crafters, upholsterers and carpet installers. Also known as Flat Head Tacks, they feature a sharp point, tapered body and an angular cut shank to resist pull-out.
Longer length copper tacks are used as clench nails for wooden light craft, lap-strake boats and wood and canvas canoe construction.
Our Copper Tacks are now offered in lots of 25 for those installing oar leathers.

Great Copper Cut Tacks
The tack is great: well made and must have for professional artists. Having 1/4"" round head makes all the difference to hold painting canvas more secure than tacks carried by home-centers. I use different lengths depending upon weight of canvas and size of painting I am working on.

Perfectly done

Great product, shipped quickly, professionally packed. The Copper Tacks themselves are beautifully done. Smooth, equal in size, like the English soldiers of the time of King George. Nice to the eye.

The supply has changed and now is in inferior quality
8 years ago
We have always ordered these tacks from Jamestown for years and had been very satisfied with them. We use them for stretching canvases for our art conservation business. However, our current order (April 2016) of the copper cut tacks turned out to be a huge disappointment. The tacks are now in inferior quality, very dull (not pointy enough for tacking canvas easily) and irregular in shapes, and heads are not perfectly flat like they used to. The color is also dull, as if they had been painted with copper paint, instead of natural copper color... Your fingers get dirty after handling them, which never happened with copper tacks in the past. Unfortunately, we had to return them. Just not usable quality for our business. If this is what they are going to carry from now on, we will have to find some other supplier. Artists and art conservators who are looking for quality copper tacks, be aware.

Great Product!

I'm not much of a writer and I don't build boats. I ordered these copper nails for use on some architectural birdhouses that I am making as gifts. I finish the roofs with a copper strip that's nailed on each side and while I do have to drill through the copper first (these nails are ""copper soft""), the pointed tip of the nails easily seats the nail so it can be driven in the rest of the way. I'd also like to express my gratitude to this company for such an easy transaction and for selling these nails in a useable quantity. I'll definitely come back for more materials as my projects evolve.

Archival picture framing includes stretching canvases in a traditional manner with real copper nails or tacks. It is hard to find copper tacks this size in decent quantities at most hardware stores. For clients who want the best, copper is the only way to go.

Good Quality Fasteners

Good solution for assembling wired bee hive frames to resist corrosion, and good anchoring of the wire in the shallow depth of the side bars.

Awesome; hard-to-find!

These tacks are copper, not just copper coated. I stretch and prepare all my own canvasses for painting. I use high quality Belgian Linen and good wood stretchers, and it is important to me that the tacks are sturdy, beautiful, very functional. I like that I can get different lengths, and that this shipment came so quickly. Great service!

Real Copper Tacks
I always use copper tacks when constructing my canvases for painting. They don't rust, are easy to start when nailing, and they stay put until you remove them. But, like anything made from copper, they are pricey. Most art suppliers are selling copper coating nails which just work the same.

Q: null Are these tacks considered a number 2 tack. My plans do not give a dimension, only size, and it calls for 1 pound No. 2 copper tacks.
3 years ago1 Answer
A: Apologies for the delay in answering this question. Our supplier does not list tacks by number just by size 3/8"" in this case. Looking at some other distributors who sell tacks by number, 3/8"" would be number 3 tacks.

Q: null What size would you recommend for clench nailing 1/4"" cedar lapstrake planking?
4 years ago1 Answer
A: When using a cut tack and a rove, you will need to use a tack approximately three times the thickness of the planking. After fitting tack and rove, the end of the tack will need to be cut off before setting and peening. Practice with some scrap materials on a workbench, until you've figured out the correct cut off length and had a chance to practice. There is a description of the process on the website; https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=1921
