I will never buy this paint again
After over 1 hour of stirring the paint there is still a blob of compound which will not mix with the rest of the can. This is the 15th year I have utilized this product and I can tell you I will never use it again.

All you need to do is make sure the bottom is clean and dry before application. Brush on two coats and that's it! We keep our Avon in a large barnacle area in CT. Since I started using this paint we have no barnacle's at all. It really good stuff. At the end of last season we still had a lot of paint cover so this year we only put on one coat. The paint is expensive but worth every penny!!

Q: I wish to remove this bottm paint from areas above the waterline. What is the process to remove Pettit #1841 from the hypalon inflatible fabric WITHOUT damage to the fabric or the adhesive holding the fabric joints together? The bottom paint has been very preventing bottom growth even in 70+ degree ocean water. But was applied too high above the waterline where it rubs onto adjacent dingys / boats leaving black marks.

A: Sorry no experience with this specific issue. My only input would be that over time the paint comes off by itself under the water line so perhaps you could speed up that process by using a water hose or an extended light pressure hose? Or check with petit and/or the dinghy maker? Good luck.

Q: I currently have MDR on the bottom of the pontoons of my RIB. Can I apply a coat of this product over the MDR without any weird chemical reaction? Also, I know this stuff is for inflatables, but can I use it on gelcoat too??

A: I put 2 coats on my Avon (hypalon) inflatable in Dec. Did not put it back in the ocean until mid Feb; so it's only been back in the after about 6 weeks. So far it's been super---but time will tell.

Q: can I use this paint on alum.bottom as well as the PVC tubes of my inflatable ?
11 years ago3 Answers
A: I haven't tried to use it on Aluminum. I gripped pretty well on the inflatable material. Surface prep would be the key for it gripping the smooth metal. The paint is soft so I wouldn't expect it to last on surfaces that rub the bottom. I wish you luck.

Q: Is this paint suitable for a 1991 Avon Rover Inflatable?
11 years ago3 Answers
A: I used the paint on a 1995 Sea Range inflatable. The results were reasonable. I lightly sanded the existing coating with 120 grit sand paper. The results were OK but not great. The main problem was gradual delamination where the old coating was already weak. It did cut the leak rate by about 80%.
