You get what you pay for, Top Quality!!!!!!!!!

The old saying of you get what you pay for, this is top Quality!!! I replaced my old fuse panel in my boat with this new breaker panel. My old fuses would get corrosion on them the would not be blown but they would not work!! I would have to turn the fuse in the holder to get it to work, not a good thing when you boat on the great lakes and your electronics dont work.

Installation requires care

As with all Blue Sea equipment I have installed, the design and craftsmanship is superb. The printed manual that explains the electrical intricacies of installing the panel is excellent. I have found that cutting the hole for Blue Sea panels, however, is a little awkward and requires care. Very little clearance is provided between internal components and the hole's edge, and the tabs one leaves for the mounting screws are rather small (1/4 inch by 1/4 inch). The provided template is good, although it shows the mounting screw centers as 4.420 inches or 112.27 millimeters apart -- numbers only an engineer could dream up. Cut the paper template apart with a razor knife or Exacto, rather than a scissors, for best results.

Q: null What are the correct dimensions of this product (the 8385)? This site suggests roughly 7-8__quote__ wide (for horizontal layout), whereas the Blue Sea Systems site says more than 10__quote__ wide. (This question is probably best answered by Jamestown Distrib. themselves, since it's their site!)

Q: null how much space do I need behind this panel ?

1 Answer

A: From the back of the face panel you need 2-1/2 inches minimum. That is enough space for the breakers and the wires which are factory-connected, but no more. If you are careful about how you run your wires to the breakers, you could probably stay within that 2-1/2 inches. If you want a little room to get wires around and such, allow a little more. Note that you do not want the breakers or wires touching anything behind them, so if you are planning the space, plan on 3 inches.
