The Moeller line of fuel tanks are excellent replacements for old galvanized or fiberglass tanks. Everybody should know by now the problems that E-10 gas can cause. Replacing an old tank would be good preventative medicine.

Q: I am looking for a Moeller fuel tank FTA 001103 BR. All the Moeller tanks I see on your website are for boats built before 2011, and don't meet current EPA regulations. Can you help with a tank that would be legal for my boat (under construction now)?

A: Not sure I can help you, but I needed a specific dimension fuel tank to replace the Steel tank in my 1978 Herreshoff. The replacement tank is designed for gas or Diesel and came with a fuel gauge and basic hardware. I'd guess the EPA guideline change would be for safer or additional venting? Im sure the tank could be modified as needed. The main issue is the effects of ethanol to plastic, I'd assume the manufacturer had overcome this issue already. You can get a custom stainless tank made ( very costly ) , but metal tanks tend to have condensation issues.

Q: May two MOE032525 tanks be manufactured with spouts in one end to permit connection end-to-end with filler hose? Is this a practical solution when a larger capacity tank is not an option?

A: Each tank will have to be filled independently but you can plumb the pick up so they both feed to one motor.

Q: can we use a below deck gas tank above deck inside of a fiber glass box that's vented ?

1 Answer

A: The tank will have to be vented and filled from outside the boat so fumes cannot find their way into the bilge causing risk of fire/explosion.

Q: Current below boat deck permanent fuel tank is 8'-0""L x 22""W x 7"" deep. Do you have a tank replacement recommendation? I would prefer plastic. Fuel fill and vent is forward starboard with the sending unit near the center and fuel discharge centered in the aft part of the tank.

A: Thank you for reaching out. As we don't carry any in that size range I would highly recommend reaching out to Moeller directly 800-432-8344 Tom

Q: Does the below deck tanks have a filler cap?

A: No, mine has a 1.5"" neck for filling, plus 2 vent necks, the engine pickup neck (all barbed for hose + hose clamps) and the hole for the transducer. I'm planning to install mine (MOE-032629) in my center console with a vertical mounted fill and 45 degree run to the fill neck.
