Excellent unit

With some disassembly/reassembly, the unit can be adjusted for 50, 65, 80, and 110 degree sweeps, as well as left or right hand return. Unit comes with instructions on how to do this.

Worked out great

Worked out great, watch the left or right park positions and be careful with the auto park switch that will move to park if you leave the power on.

Not wateproof

I bought this in October 2011 to replace an original AFI unit that came with the boat (1993). Installation was pretty easy but the unit failed in fall 2013 due to water incursion.

Looks Good, Works Bad

I have a three year old, 24' Skagit Orca, fishing boat that came with three of these motors. So far two of the three have gone belly up and the third is close to dieing. They have all been very noisey from the start.

Q: I have to replace an AFI motor that looks exactly like these, but the product number is 36280. It has a 1-1/2 shaft and 80% would work. Will this 36180 model work?

Q: AFI 1000 says it can be adjusted for different degree's of operation how difficult is this to do?

A: The adjustment is really easy, remove the cover screws remove cover looking at the gear, there are 2 screws through the stainless ring ( flat head phillips ), there are also markings on the stainless ring to indicate sweep angle after removing the hex head screw for linkage and the 2 flat head screws in the stainless ring, simply rotate the stainless ring, the nylon gear will remain still, move ring to the desired position reassemble in reverse order of disassembly. The stainless ring is more of a flat disc by the way, it fits in the center of the nylon ring gear. The instructions included are easy enough to follow, I did use a 12v battery and some jumper wires to verify the sweep and park before installing .

Q: I have 3 AFI windshield wipers on my boat. One shorted out and I'm going to replace it. It has three wires hooked to it. one Red one Black and one yellow. Starboard side works independently or put the switch to the other side all three work together. I want to put in three toggle switches and make each work independently. What is the wire that cones off the back of the wiper marked with a green dot do? It does not appear to be a ground. Why do I need a three pin switch?
