Not enough pressure

Easy to use, just weighing the door to get pressure rating should work, but the 20 pound ones aren't even able to fully lift my 10lb aluminum utility body doors.

This item was not shown in the catelog. I had purchased the wrong item, and the gentleman on the Jamestown tech line was most helpful in getting the proper item and with returning the incorrect ones I had previously ordered.

60# Gas Springs for Bilge Cover

The 55# rated Atwood gas springs for my engine/bilge hatch cover in my 1989 Bayliner Ciera Sunbridge were not doing the job to the point that as a safety measure I used a boat pole to ensure that the heavy cover would not come down on my head when I was working in there. Exact part replacements were no longer available. The O.A.L. of the old shock was 19-5/8"" so I hoped that the 20"" 60# shock (ATT SL34605) would be close enough to work. When I initially tried to install the new springs I could not push the stroke end down enough to pop it onto the 10mm ball (at least not without getting a finger pinched along the way) nor could I get the hatch to rise up to the 20"" O.A.L.when not under pressure. I had to think about it. A week later armed with a new 24"" clamp I compressed the gas spring the requisite amount and popped it on. The 2nd spring on the other side of the hatch went even quicker and in 10 minutes I was done. I was a little concerned that the new springs might be too powerful and the hatch would spring open, but that has not been the case. The hatch now opens easily and stays closed when down. I no longer have to be concerned about it whacking me in the noggin when I am working in there. I am very satisfied with these springs.

Q: Looking for the SL36-70-1 SpringLift gas springs. 320N , 3613MA on current spring. Do you carry? If not, anything comparable? Thanks Bob

A: Thank you for reaching out. The way that these work in the part number is: SL= Spring lift, 36= size range(Compressed and extended), 70= Pounds of pressure, these are the important parts of the part number. The closest we have is the SL36(same length)90-5 The pressure being 90, will make it a little tougher to compress but that is the only one we have that may work for you.

Q: Hi, I need to replace SL36-50#. Which product do you recommend?

1 Answer

A: Hey there, thank you for reaching out. I would recommend sticking with it(there should also be a designation on there after the 50 IE SL36-50-5. The closest we have at 3620 and 3690, the 50/20/90 stands for the amount of pounds of pressure, so going too far off that pressure can make the hatch not work to your liking.

A: I purchased some gas springs from Jamestown Distributors and am very pleased, I wasn't sure of the weight of what I was trying to balance was , so the first two I bought were not strong enough. The next two have done the job very well. They are used on the trunk lid of my 1995 Cushman Truckster

Q: My rv outside access door Atwood strut indicates SL-14-60 it is a 12 by 20 strut. I see on the site a -1 or -5 number after the 60 number which do I need a -1 or -5? The door probably weighs about 20 lbs.

1 Answer

A: ATT-SL34205 will be the closest the difference is the SL-14-60 has a 3/8"" end fitting and the ATT-SL34205 has a 10mm end fitting which is slightly larger but likely will fit.

Q: Currently, I have two ""Spring Lyfts"", model SL3-20 I believe. They're not keeping the master cabin bed (aft section) open when used. Exact number on the shaft is; 3506MZ 0100N 097/03. Which model strut replaces this one and should I go with a higher pressure one to ensure the locker opens easier and bed stays up while we're in the storage space?

A: I always use the stronger ones when inam replacing unless you can find the EXACT one you are replacing and you love the lift and hold. Also spend the extra for SS. I am on the great lakes and still the regukara ones rust a bit. Can only imAgine a salty boat Michael E.
