SPRING MAIL-IN REBATE: Save $5 per quart on EZ-Poxy!

Pettit EZ-Poxy (formerly Easypoxy) is a highly rated, one-part polyurethane topside paint improved by the addition of silicone for a brilliant shine and easy brushing. It also contains UV filters to enhance the already superior gloss retention and durability of polyurethane.

Safe to use on wood, steel, aluminum, and fiberglass with proper surface preparation. This marine-grade paint can be applied either with the roll-and-tip method with a nap roller and brush or with an airless sprayer. Either method results in a topside finish that is easy to apply and produces a lasting gel coat-like brilliance with minimum effort.

Pettit EZ-Poxy polyurethane paints are available in 35 popular and high-gloss topside colors. All are sold as quarts, except White and Semi-Gloss White, which can be purchased in gallons and quarts.

Info & Guides

SURFACE PREPARATION

The surface must be free of dirt, loose paint, rust, oil, grease, wax, soap and any other foreign matter before painting. Clean painted areas by washing with a solution of 2 cups household ammonia per gallon of water and rinse well. Remove existing mildew with household bleach instead of ammonia.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

Stir thoroughly before use. EZ-Poxy may be applied by brush, roller, conventional spray, or airless spray. For brush or roller application, apply without thinning, although in hot weather 5-10% Pettit 120 Brushing Thinner may be added to maintain a wet edge. For best results on large, smooth surfaces, roll out using a short nap roller followed immediately by leveling off with the tip of a brush.

For conventional spray application thin 15-20% with Pettit 121 Spraying Thinner. Apply one, thin even coat per day. After an overnight dry, lightly sand with 220-grit sandpaper and apply a second coat.

Applying two or more coats in one day or applying excessively heavy films (greater than 4 mils wet) will lead to insufficient through-drying of the paint and will yield soft paint films. For airless spray application, thin up to 5% with Pettit 121 Spraying Thinner.

Utilize a .011-.015 inch diameter tip for application. Do not apply EZ-Poxy on extremely humid days (90°F+ RH) or when rain is threatening. Do not apply in the late afternoon when working outdoors as the wet film may be adversely affected by dew. When working in cooler temperatures, be sure the air and surface temperatures will remain at or above 50°F for at least 8 hours after application.

Easier to use, great finish

One part paint and i didnt even use a primer but it's as hard as chrome. Very impressive. I did use the performance enhancer additive, don't know what it's like without it so can't compare, but based on my experience i'd say get the additive too.

Excellent paint with a smooth finish

I used this paint for my DIY open-baffle audio speakers. I used semi-gloss, a brush and three coats to end up with a smooth and even finish.

Nothing short of amazing!

I just put a coat of electric sapphire blue over a faded green hull. It nearly covered in one coat, and flowed out like glass. After prep (the time consuming part), I painted the sides of a 21ft. boat in less than an hour using the roll and tip method. I did use the performance enhancer additive, and a splash of thinner. I was amazed at the hiding qualities of the paint, and the ease of application. No runs or sags, and it looks beautiful. I couldn't be happier, and I have two coats to go!

Worked great on a Aqua-Cycle paddle boat decking

I'm not exactly sure what the deck panels are made of. Kind of a polyurethane. The paint adhered well after sanding and give it a smooth hard finish.

Rolled it on with a yellow foam roller then immediately followed tipping it with a brush. Amazing coverage with only one coat and flowed out like glass.

A good result, but requires technique.

I was impressed by the results of my first two coats, but because of some runs and sags, decided to sand it for another two coats.

Not the greatest paint

I only chose the ez poxy because of the color available. I rolled and tipped with poor results. I have used their competitor's paint several times with super results on home built boats.

Q: I just moved and my new house has old peel and stick tiles in the kitchen. I was wondering if I could use this paint to paint over them? I believe there is particleboard underneath them as there was in the bedroom I tore the carpet out of. I am also wondering if it could be used on particleboard

1 Answer

A: It will not adhere to the peel and stick tiles. I would not recommend using it over particle board.

Q: The description for tough coat rubberized deck paint says it matches the easy poxy deck colors however I do not see whaler blue in the easy poxy color selection is there a Whaler blue available in easy poxy paint?

1 Answer

A: Hey there. Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately Whaler Blue is not offered in EZ Poxy paint. However, this color is very popular in other topside paints like Wet Edge: https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/product/product-detail/64351

Q: Will Jamestown Thinner 100 be compatible with Pettit EZ Poxy Topside Boat Paint ?

Q: Hi, I'm looking for an extremely hard finish for an exterior door that gets a beating from the elements (I live very close to the ocean). Can this paint be applied over an ordinary exterior water base paint?

A: From the tech data link on the website: ""If the old paint is a latex or water-based paint, or is in poor condition, remove it with a paint and varnish remover or by sanding. Proceed with instructions for the appropriate bare surface system."" For an extra durable finish, add the Pettit performance enhancer.

Q: Is Pettit EZPoxy topside paint compatible with the two-part paint presently on my wooden boat? I just need to cover a few small areas that occasionally scuff in trailering. Boat is epoxy-saturated plywood covered in glass cloth, painted in two-part epoxy paint.

A: It's always best to do a test first, however, if you prep per previously painted instructions it should not be an issue.

Q: What is the shelf life of an open Quart of Ezpoxy Paint?

1 Answer

A: Hi Pete. Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately it is hard to predict the shelf life of opened paint because it can vary greatly depending on conditions and exposure. To extend the life as long as possible, store the quart tightly closed in a climate controlled location out of direct sunlight. You can also spray some Bloxygen into the can before closing, which will settle over the surface and help keep oxygen away to delay skin-over. You can find that here: https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/product/product-detail/63940

Q: I recently purchased an aluminum bass boat. The previous owner painted the upper rail (gunwale) with Krylon Fusion spray paint. He said he used a Rustoleum primer first. My Question is if I wanted to use this product can I apply it over the existing paint? If not do I need to just sand to ruff up or do I need to get it down to bare aluminum? Thanks

1 Answer

A: Hey Timothy, Thank you for reaching out. We cannot guarantee the Ez-poxy over the rustoleum and especially the krylon. You would have to test it first. If you sanded down to bare metal you would have to prime the metal first as Ez-poxy is not designed to go directly to metal. Please refer to: https://doc.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/pdfs/Pettit/Pettit_EZPoxy_Technical_Data.pdf for appropriate primers for different substrates
