Product Details

Interlux Flattening Agent helps produce a semi-gloss or matte finish when used with 1-part finishes like Toplac Plus, Brightside, Yacht Enamel and all 1-part Interlux varnishes (such as Schooner, Schooner Gold, and Original). While it is generally recommended to use 4 to 8 oz per quart, darker colors require more.

Guidelines:

High Semi-Gloss: 3 parts finish: 1 part flattening agent
Semi-Gloss: 1 part finish: 1 part agent
Low Semi-Gloss: 1 part finish: 2 parts agent
Flat:1 part finish: 3 part agent

Test mixing ratio to establish degree of flatting before use

Works fine, however it is way too costly. It contains no pigment, titanium oxides. I suspect the ""flattening agent"" is a powder element that presents degrees of coarseness. As Interlux only offer's semi gloss in white, that semi gloss in other colors requires the purchase of additional ""flatter"", it should be at a considerable reduced cost over that of Brightside.

It states in the notes on the JD site: ""4 to 8oz per quart"". Totally not true. It states on the can for flattening a color to a satin or low gloss..... 3 to 1 ratio. This ratio can very depending on what you are looking for. That's 3 qts of agent to 1 qt. Paint. That a huge difference in calculating how much material you will need, not to mention the cost.

Q: null Looking to use this to flatten Wet Edge to get a semi-gloss finish. One of the benefits of the Wet Edge is the UV protection. Interlux says to use a 1 to 1 ratio for semi-gloss. Will this also dilute any UV stabilizers and protection in the Wet Edge? Will the UV protection be reduced?

Q: null Can this product be used to flatten Sikkens Cetol Marine Gloss? I note that Sikkens was bought by Interlux.

A: Cetol seems to perform like a one part urethane, you'd need to talk to manufacturer to be sure. Cetol comes in several different glosses.

A: This is designed for one part polyurethane systems. You may want to reach directly out to Interlux and discuss this topic with them. Not all additives like this will work universally with one-component paints.

A: Yes. It's basically the same paint as Interdeck (Interdeck has some flattening agent to lower the sheen and non-slip particles) so they are compatible.

Q: null i am looking for something that will dull the shine of black gel-coat. I use a 2 piece mold to make fiberglass hard hats and some of miners want a flat black and i don't have time to sand them. I just need something to add to my gel-coat or find a flat black gel. Any help?

A: Joy, The gloss of a molded piece is determined by the surface of the mold. Not what is in the resin. This product can not be used in a mold because it has solvent in it. The solvent must flash off into the air. You best bet is to paint the helmets with flat paint.
