Product Details

Pettit Trinidad Pro bottom paint combines the severe antifouling protection of Trinidad SR, in a hard modified epoxy formula ideal for professional boat painters. This slime resistant bottom paint has a hard, durable finish with high copper content and dual biocodes for years of reliable performance in even the worst fouling conditions. With a dual biocides of powerful Cuprous Oxide paired with a specially formulated algaecide, Trinidad Pro provides unprecedented resistance to barnacles, algae, slime and other marine and fresh-water fouling organisms.

Apply by brush, roller, or spray on fiberglass, wood, steel, cast iron, most underwater metals, and previously painted surfaces below the waterline. If desired, thin up to 10% with Pettit 120 Brushing Thinner or Pettit 121 Spraying Thinner. While existing soft antifouling paints must be removed prior to painting, Trinidad Pro is compatible with all properly prepared hard bottom coatings, and permits safe application without fear of lifting. This paint features excellent adhesion to fiberglass, wood and steel hulls and is perfect for both power and sail boats. Expect years of service from this copper-based antifouling paint, even if your boat is left in the water.

Available in Gallons in Black, Blue, Green, and Red.

Petit Trinidad Pro Bottom Paint

Petit Trinidad Pro Hard and Ablative bottom paints are the creme de la creme of bottom paint, IMHO. Before the current vessel we own, we had a 38-foot sailboat on which we used Trinidad Pro paints. We opted to use the same bottom preparation and paint we previously used on our new boat since we had such a successful experience. Although I am sure the longevity and effectiveness of the paint have everything to do with the bottom preparation and the three coats applied (four around the scum line) after a couple of coats of Petit Epoxy Barrier coat once the hull was blasted and thoroughly sanded. The Trinidad Pro hard paint lasted 3.5 years before allowing any growth to appear. Although we are moored in Solomons, the growth here is more or less some barnacles, worms, and algae (Scum). BTW, during this period, the sailboat was rarely used to sail due to unforeseen medical issues, so if growth were going to happen, it would have happened during this three-and-a-half-year period. The second repaint after the hard paint application, the Trinidad Pro Ablative paint, lasted nearly three years before it was noticed that a refresh would be needed. However, during the haul-outs at either time, that paint appeared to be in terrific condition and may have lasted a little longer. I realize Trinidad Pro paint is at the higher end of the cost spectrum, but in the bottom paint world, you get what you pay for! I highly recommend this paint, and I guarantee you, if you follow the application instructions, you won't be sorry you spent the little extra money and used Petit Trinidad Pro. I am going to paint our current boat bottom (a Trawler) with the Petit Hard bottom paint this year. I hope if this review helps you make a decision, you will have the same results as us.

Area of use: Boston Harbor, sailboat Typically a pretty heavy fouling area, especially late summer. I experienced no hard growth. Only some slime and soft growth that cleaned off very easily. The guy who professionally cleans boat bottoms around here recommended it to me.

Q: when should I expect to need to add another coat or 2 to Trinidad pro for a boat in the water in the Texas Gulf Coast Galveston Bay?

A: Hey Doug, Thank you for reaching out. It strongly varies on a lot of variables, Amount of coats, How often it was scrubbed, the water it is kept in. It's not unrealistic to expect 1.5 to 2 years sometimes more. Hauling reduces this. For specifics to your situation I recommend reaching out to Pettit Directly: (800) 221-4466

Q: My first application of Trinidad Pro last 2 1/2 years with the Irgarol formula. My next application BUT with the ""new"" Irgarol (after PTEF formula) is not good at all. Here I am having to clean my hull biweekly now to clear the slime and algae after a little more than a year. It is if there is no biocide in it. (I have had many others switch to Pro based on my original experience.) I am now planning on re-painting early and now I see they have a NEW formula again with ""Dual biocides"" but NO irgarol! I am concerned....has there been any NEW reviews for this NEW paint?

Q: Can you mix colors of the trinidad pro to get a different color and if you take your hull to bare fiberglass, do you need to prime it?

1 Answer

A: Yes you can blend colors of the same paint. If you take your hull down to bare fiberglass you will need to fair it then prime it with epoxy barrier coat.

Q: What primer for fiberglass boat

Q: My boat has been in the water for 4 years here in Tampa Florida using Trinidad Pro with Irgarol (pre-ban). The paint is still effective, but starting to wear thin, so I plan to haul this winter. It appears that use of Irgarol is once again permitted - is that true? Is the 2% by volume the same as before?
