I'm not a professional boat repairer, but have done considerable repair on the 5 older sailboats I've owned. This gel coat sprays easily with an airbrush with a small amount of thinning, sets as expected, and feathers nicely into the surrounding area. I brushed it on a couple of small areas and was able to wet sand them out to blend in well, also. I like that this gelcoat comes in a choice of colors; other suppliers seem to be offering only white, and even if you manage to match the color initially, the added colorants change and fade in sunlight. The cream color available here happens to match my current boat perfectly. I was even able to correct some blotchy repairs from a few years ago. Very happy with the results.

The label only says Danger followed by 2 paragraphs that are written so small you will need to get a magnifying glass to read

Product is good. Be careful to color match closely. The color swatch available from Jamestown may not be true to the color in the can. This may be due to the substrate color on your boat versus the paper.

I am using this oyster color gelcoat to fix spider cracks on my ""new"" 1995 Sunbird 170 FS. The match is perfect in some places, almost perfect in others. Package needs to include mixing ratio information. Found on YouTube to use 4 drops of catalyst per teaspoon of gelcoat. That ratio seems to work fine at mid-70s temperatures. Could use guidance for other temps.

This is an easy to use product and reliable. I would suggest experimenting with mixing very small batches to determine the proper amount of catalyst before applying it to your boat. Once it starts to feel, it goes off quickly.

A: Sorry, I cannot match that color. However, Air dry gelcoats are color matched to Awlgrip paints. If you can get an Awlgrip color chart you can find out which color Air Dry is the closest match.

A: Hey Chris, Thank you for reaching out. We would not have information per boat. The best advice I have is they are designed to line up with awlgrip colors, so if you get an awlgrip color chart you can use that to test.

Q: null I have a 1986 Hunter 28.5 sailboat, the topsides have stress cracks, and dings in multiple locations. There is also an are where topside paint was applied on the non-skid gelcoat, the paint is pealing. I would like to deal with the stress cracks, dings and pealing paint by grinding out cracks and filling cracks and dings and stripping the pealing paint. What product would give me the best outcome paint or gelcoat, and how do I use a brush/roller to apply paint/gelcoat to both non-skid and regular topside surface?

A: I would try Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) to strip the paint. But hairline cracks cannot just be painted over. They will reappear right away. The cracks must be made wider and deeper (~1/16"") using a diamond burr and Dremel. Just dribble the gelcoat (mounded up - it will shrink) into the channel and sand flush. Progressively sand to 2000 grit and polish. Highly recommend ""Smoove"" as polishing compound. BTW, you might just sand the paint off first and forget the MEK (but it's also great as a clean-up solvent. Good luck! - Ron Simpson

A: Sorry, there is no reference available to answer that question. If it doesn't match you can add tints to adjust the color.

Q: null I'm looking to repair some gelcoat on my 2004 Four Winns that was Spectrum Color Four Winns, 1999-2004, Surf White Mfg F503757. Are any of the JD products: TotalBoat White, NAC Colored Air-Dried Gelcoat Whites (Snow, Oyster or Matterhorn) or SeaHawk (Matterhorn or Snow) a color match to Spectrum Surf White?

A: I didn't find Spectrum to be helpful as my boat is a 2001 Hurricane model SD237 and is too old for Spectrum. I ordered a bottle of ""Carmel brown pigment"" to get the ""snow white"" gel coat a little closer to the ""cream"" color of my boat. It is not perfect but is an improvement over the spider cracks and holes that came with the boat

Q: null I have approx 75 sqft area boat floor . 2 plys fiberglass fabric in polyester resin sanded and ready to gelcoat with your Color Air Dry Gel Coat . I would like a nice looking smooth finish when complete. My question is if I mix several small batches and "" roll"" them on will this not cause the finished product to look like a patchwork quilt. I am in Florida and it is 90+ by 10am in the shade . Do you have any helpful ideas or suggestions? Perhaps a hard tough finish One part product that dries a little slower?

A: I would put on 1 coat then sand. On final coat start at one end and continue to the other with out stopping. You should be able to keep your work area in front of you wet as you go. I would also back off of your hardeneron final coat. Have your batches measured and ready for a quick mix, and keep rolling. 90 plus makes it difficult.
