Product Details

Boatbuilders use Oval head screws to attach a wide variety of metal trim to decks hatches and other surfaces that people contact regularly. The oval head projects above the surface but because it is gently rounded it doesnt tend to snag on things as easily as a protruding flat head screw. And Silicon Bronze is a great choice--it's great for corrosion resistance. We recommend pre-drilling twice (once for the root and once for the shank) as well as using a screw lubricant to avoid breakage. All screws are threaded for 2/3 of the shank.

We rely on the strength and quality of bronze screws

We are restoring a 1928 streetcar and have used bronze slot wood screws throughout. They are strong, weather resistant and look great. They fit perfectly with the design and age of the streetcar and will be long lasting. The bronze screws are superior to brass screws for strength and durability.

Questions

Q: Do you use a finish washer with these screws?

A: I used the screws to secure the top of a pipe organ console in place and, since the holes were chamfered did not use finish washers. The same organ has three 10-32 bronze machine screws securing the back (very difficult to find, by the way) as the back must be removed more frequently than the top. Again, I simply chamfered the holes with a countersink and did not use finishing washers,
