Product Details
Slim hadger hair brushes feature Redtree badger style China bristle, and are slightly thinner than standard badger hair paint brushes. These slimmer brushes are excellent for Varnish and all marine finish. Badger brushes have a brushy appearance as the hair is cone shaped, thick near the tip and thin near the root.
Badger hair is somewhat stiff even in longer lengths. Most badger-hair brushes have a fan or round shape with a flat top for blending.

great feel when varnishing
I have bought badger hair brushes before, and expensive ones at that, and I wasn't really impressed with them, to the point that I stopped using them. They were very thick and seemed to drag too much in the varnish. I switched to foam brushes for a while, and found that they didn't spread the varnish out very well. I roller tip when I can, but you just can't all the time due to the geometry. I decided to try these thin badger hair brushes, and I really like them. They are stiff enough to spread the varnish, and they do not drag like the thick brushes.

After one cleaning the bristles started pulling out horribly. Don't waste your money.

Great brush

I use these for applying lacquer, I'm not looking to spend hundereds on spray equipment. They don't melt in solvents, and the natural colored band in each bristle makes it easy to spot any bristles that do come off, which is rare. Very fine brush marks.

Great finish!

Great for brushing lacquer. Rarely leaves a bristle in the finish, mostly from bristles that get broken when the brush dried with traces of lacquer in it, making them brittle. Natural color stripe in badger hair makes it easy to spot the bristles that do break off.

Quality Product

Unlike other reviewers, I found this brush to be of high quality, with few loose bristles. I used it to apply 5 coats of marine varnish to a handcrafted wood paddle board and was extremely pleased with the results. I have finished many woodworking projects and have never been totally pleased with the brushes I have used. From now on, anytime I varnish I will be using the badger hair brushes. Thank you.

Terrible brush

I have been painting for myself, my family and professionally for over 50 years. Recently I Awlgripped three fiberglass dinghies and bought ten of these brushes for tipping off. I have never seen a brush throw so much hair. I returned one used and nine unused brushes to Jamestown for a refund. [...]

I love these brushes!

I use these brushes mainly to apply Interlux Perfection. They shed almost nothing and have the right softness/stiffness for this. I don't try to clean them because the solvent is so expensive and I don't want to risk the quality of the next coat.
