Product Details

Lag screws are bolts with sharp points and coarse threads designed to penetrate and grip wood similar to a wood screw. They are generally used to anchor metal or wood to wood in places where you can't use a nut for a throughbolt or where an especially long bolt would be needed to penetrate a joint fully. Although lag screws do have unique and desirable applications, throughbolts are generally considered to be a more positive means of connection since they are less dependent on workmanship for reliable installation.

Q: Is 18-8 stainless steel marine grade??????

A: Hi' I use lag screws for securing motor and motor mounts in our 1922 27 ft long decker launch project. It is my belief that fay and bowen used iron fasteners extensively. In places where where 3/8 iron fastener were used, there was plenty of corrosion, sometimes we found the diameter redjuced by 50%. We replaced the iron stuff with stainless, alloy 18-8 I think. We weren't worried out bout thickness reduction, so we felt that using metal somewhat weaker would be ok. I have been buying fasteners form Jamestown for ~ 25 years. I believe they have superb individual running the fastener department. When you compare them to inferior product, they look better, feel better have correct dimensions etc. There was a time when i searched for information on fastener grades.

A: Installed these over a year ago to bolt a 4X6 beam into Redi Footings for a shed I built. Did the job! As I remember all of the screw was threaded, though the ones I used were shorter than 4__quote__.
