Poor Construction

Rivet holding down terminal bent during installation. two of the three terminals have two rivets to attach them to the housing, but for some reason one has only one.

not for NewEngland

Boat in NewEngland, switch lasted one season, did not make it thru the winter even thou the switch was oiled prior to winter storage. Key locks up and entire barrel spins, very annoying, will not buy again.

AS DESCRIBED

THE THREADED BARREL IS ROUND, THE LOCK I REPLACED HAD A FLAT SPOT ON ONE SIDE OF THE LOCK SO THAT IT WOULD NOT SPIN IN THE MOUNTING HOLE IF IT BECAME LOOSE. I HAD TO REAM OUT THE FLAT SPOT IN THE MOUNTING HOLE TO MAKE THE NEW LOCK FIT.

50 years of using these switches

I find that the ignition switch procusts by Cole Hersee have been durable and have been used by myself on boats for over 50 years. I just restored a 18' 1955 chriscraft that had the same switch installed when built and it has lasted 55 years. Replacement was because of key problems, switch still works well

Q: does the purple/white stripe wire hook up to the battery connect on the switch?

A: I replaced an original ignition/starter switch that was on my 1955 -18' Chris Craft Continental. I hooked the wires up exactly as the other switch was wired. I do not know how your motor is wired. The battery wire connects to the selenoid of the starter and provides the hot side of the switch to start the engine. When the engine is started it powers all of the other items, gauges, pump, etc. You need to look at a wiring diagram for your boat or motor to see how the wires are coded. My wires were 55 years old so I didn't have any color code. Hope you get it going.
