I need more experience !

Tried it as delivered with foam brush. Not a good result - very uneven film. Tried it as delivered with good bristle brush. Not a good result - very uneven film. Diluted it with 10% Epiphanes thinner. Used a good bristle brush to obtain an acceptable finish on a vertical surface I was touching up. Over coating on a large old flat surface resulted in a barely acceptable result. Harsh incident light showed up slight brush strokes. All on internal boat woodwork.after rubbing down etc etc

Exactly as advertised

Used as topcoat (s) for new construction outdoor furniture. Very clear and informative instructions available online from JD. The product performance has been ""spot on"" thus far. Appearance is excellent.

Fantastic wood finish

I used this product on a wood exterior door that has sun exposure in the Houston, Texas area. I cut it 50% with Epifanes thinner because it was so thick and applied 4 coats. Traditionally finishes on doors like this last maybe 5 years, Epifanes is going 8 and looks like I did it yesterday. Side note, I always write the acquisition and open date on all liquid products. This bad boy was 10 years old and I gave it to a friend to use on his boat because it is such a great product. The finish dried and looks 100%.

Fantastic finish for a front entry door

I finished our new mahogany front door with 4 coats Epifanes gloss varnish thinning and applying as recommended by Epifanes. Then finished with two coats Epifanes matte finish with the first coat cut with 25% thinner and the final coat 5% thinner. The door looks so fantastic everyone who comes to the house comments on the door. Even the UPS guy, who has probably seen thousands of front doors, said ""I never saw such a beautiful front door"" and I had not even mentioned we had a new front door. You can't beat this stuff. The man who made the door is from Germany and he said, ""In Germany this is all we use on wood doors"". This stuff is more expensive than other varnishes, but it is worth every penny.

A great matte finish for a high quality look

It went on well (brushing on it handles different than epifanes high gloss but not bad just different) and dries nice and even. After 4 coats of high gloss this canoe looked so nice I almost didn't put this last finishing coat on the interior but I went ahead and I really like the toned down, rich look!

Epiphanes Woodfinish Matte

I use Woodfinish Matte on furniture. I spray it, and it flows out beautifully, and dries to a lovely, even sheen. I highly recommend this product.

Gorgeous matte finish

I don't have anything to do with boats, but I do use this on outdoor wood signage in the Pacific NW, so it may as well be sitting in an ocean! I used this over the top of the Total Boat CPES, applied 4 coats of the matte on top and it is GORGEOUS! And I'm very comfortable handing these off and letting them hang in the elements for years to come.

Great finish

I used this finish over the top of penetrating epoxy. I used it on a butcher's block vanity top in a bathroom. I'm not a pro, but I've done a little bit of wood finishing. I agree with some comments about the difficulty of maintaining a wet edge. I brushed my first two coats on with a good quality brush, but still had lapping between passes. Between coats, I sanded with 320 grit paper. My final coat, I used a smooth finish foam roller. It left a slight orange peel finish, but it is even and looks very nice. I really like the dull luster and depth to the finish.

Matte Madness

Good have been to my shop/weather conditions but first coat applied dragged and tugged more than I would have liked. Second coat I found that if I brushed a second time, it almost worked out any marked and buffed the final finish to the matte finish I desired.

Customers love matte flinish

Epifanes matte varnish is the final coat on the doors I refinish for my customers. They love the deep, rich look that it adds.

Perfect low gloss sheen

I used 2 coats of the matte over 2 coats of high gloss on the inside of my cedar strip canoe. It was the perfect contrast finish (form) and does not produce a blinding glare (function) from the sun. It does have a much stronger odor compared to the epifanes high gloss. The no-sanding window between coats is nice, just be sure to thin properly to your conditions! I had to thin to about 12% by vol. for 70 deg. F 50%RH which is much more then recommended. Note I rolled and tipped with a foam roller and brush.

Great product!

This is a great product! I think the sheen is perfect. This is a bit thinner than the gloss varnish, but the application rate is similar. I varnished with this on a hot day and it started to set quickly. So you need to work very fast on hot days! I believe this is an excellent product. The matte finish looks great!

The best sating finish

I still hate varinishing. Using a product like this means you may never need to refinish again! I think the sheen is perfect for interior projects. It is somewhat thinner than the gloss varnish, but application rate is the same. It brushes a little eassier than the gloss varnish. It does not build as quickly since it has less solid content. So, I normally build the finish with gloss and then complete with one coat of the matte finish. It starts to set quickly, so you must keep a wet edge. If you use only one coat you must apply evenly and rather thick to have the surface level out the brush strokes. The doors below have three coats of gloss followed by one coat of this matte finish. I am very pleased with the product.
