Product Details

King Starboard is the original marine-grade polymer and the industry standard. It is the product of a proprietary process called K-Stran, the most advanced manufacturing process available for producing consistently flat continuous sheets. King StarBoard is easy to work with using standard woodworking tools, and design changes are a snap.

In addition, the installed cost of King StarBoard is less than teak, other common marine woods, and fiberglass. Plus, our large sheet sizes maximize your yield. Boat buyers appreciate King StarBoard's low-maintenance finish. Repair and refinishing due to weathering and decay are eliminated, and cleaning is easy.

I'm not sure if I can salvage the sheet.

I purchased a sheet of 3/4 Starboard to fabricate an exterior cabinet face and door. The sheet was delivered in taped-together cardboard boxes. The sheet was filthy; the edges were beaten and the sheet is so warped that it might not be usable. All for only $700.

Used this as a platform on which to install pedestal seats in our Avon RIB. Made a clean, clear installation with no obstructions.

Better than I expected

I was looking to replace part of the engine cover on my '88 Chapparell which was made of teak plywood with a thin veneer, which was peeling. I found the King Starboard and ordered it hoping it would fit the bill. What I received was the perfect solution to my problem. Does not need to be painted, will not rot or mildew, and it makes the perfect cutting board to fillet fish. Looking for other areas on the boat where Starboard can replace wood.

This product is a good substitute for wood in wet areas. Can be worked like wood but is impervious to water. Very durable. Also very slick.

Q: Will two 3\4"" (1 1\2"" thick ) boards have same strength as1 1\2"" thick plywood? Replacing plywood on inner transom of aluminum john boat, 15 H.P. 4 stroke.

1 Answer

A: Starboard is more flexible than plywood, it expands and contracts more, and you can't glue the two pieces together. Plywood will be stronger, or you could use 1 1/2"" thick Airex PXc Board, from Baltek. It is a high density, glass-reinforced urethane foam panel. Applications include rotted plywood transom replacement in outboard motor installations. Check out this link: https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/product/product-detail/1593

Q: Is the starboard color listed as 'sea foam' grey in color?

1 Answer

A: Sea Foam is a tan color that is a very close match to the Desert Tan color gelcoat of Boston Whalers. JD does not carry the grey color shown in the photo.

Q: I need a piece of starboard 2 1/4"" thick by 24"" x 16"" How can I secure three pieces of 3/4"" starboard together

1 Answer

A: It's recommended to use mechanical fasteners like stainless steel screws or bolts. You can use an adhesive like 3M Scotch-Weld DP8005 Acrylic Adhesive but won't be as strong as mechanical fastening.

A: I made a diving platform for my boat with this material. 24__quote__ X 96__quote__ I used two boards of 3/4 bolted together and is excelent. If you do the same it will be more than enough for your small outboard.

Q: Hi, I have a 1978 StarCraft 14 ft. aluminum fishing boats. It has the original teak or mahagony seats which have been refinished many times. Now they are splitting so I am looking at using a King Starboard to replace three seats. They are about 11 3/4 inches wide and varying lengths up to 57__quote__ approximately. (3/4 inches thick approx.). Do you think this would be a could substitute for wood? Thanks for the advice. Chris

A: To it's benefit, starboard would be rot and maintenance free, but it is heavy and not particularly stiff. If it was through bolted to the seat risers and maybe had a vertical rib underneath it should work, but I'm not convinced this is it's best application
