Scrimped on the Wrong Part
Ironically it seems that they scrimped on the cheapest part of this pump, which also happens to be its heart - the rubber disc that makes up the one-way valve that is the key to its functionality. I noticed the flaw when I was pumping out my birdbath - fortunately not when my boat was taking on water. They made the disc just barely big enough to cover the intake hole, so if you pump strongly, the disc will pop through the hole and water will blow past it. Fortunately I noticed this when I was pumping out my birdbath and not when my boat was taking on water.

Fine pump

I bet the hose is a really nice feature. I wish mine had arrived with one. Luckily it's just tall enough to pump the water over the sheerline without a hose.

Caution Hose is NOT flexible like photo

Catalog should be corrected for this part number to show the red straight discharge pipe instead of the gray flexible hose that normally comes with these pumps.

Looks Like A Great Pump
The pump arrived on time and in perfect condition. I will use it when I empty the hot tub next month. BTW, the reason for the tepid rating is I haven't had to use, and thus evaluate, this product. The application that Jamestown uses requires a response, however. The three star rating is, therefore, neither negative nor positive. It is neutral.

Best website for buying stuff
The ""ask someone who bought this"" is a terrific idea. I had 2 questions -- specifically how to use it and how easy the pumping is to do. Based on the 6+ answers I got, all really good (""works like it looks it works"" and ""pumping can get tiring if there's a lot of stuff to be pumped""-- ok, dumb questions), so I bought the pump. Long lived

I have two of these, the 1-1/4 size and the 2"" size. The smaller one was purchased around 1967 and I still use it every day to bail the dinghy. You can't beat that! The larger one really moves a lot of water.

Q: What is the lift height (height that water can be pumped)?
8 years ago2 Answers
A: About as long as the hose that is on it, or that you added to it. Probably could do about 10 feet. Once the pump is primed, you are pushing or lifting the water when you pull the handle up.

Q: Thirsty mate pump lost suction. When this happened in the past I was able to restore the suction by placing both end of the pump in the harbor. This method isn't working this year.I suspect an o ring or gasket needs replacing. Is this possible?
9 years ago1 Answer
A: It sounds like the o-ring or seal on the piston has failed. I don't believe this is a replaceable item.

Q: I have two kayaks-a tandem and a a one man-I am looking for pump to pump out the water from the winter--what size should I buy?
9 years ago2 Answers
A: Probably the smallest. Flow capacity is the same for all, it's just the shaft length that is different. How deep is your largest compartment? That's the shaft length you should buy.

Q: we want a pump to pump water from a mop bucket(s) up to a sink on the wall (up a few feet higher) Will this pump pump a few gallons of water relatively easily? Can the hose be changed out to a longer one (4-6') to reach the sink ?
10 years ago5 Answers
A: Yes this pump will easily move a few gallons quickly. although the hose is only about 30__quote__ ft long. There may be one with a longer hose, I do not think they are replaceable

Q: Would this pump work well to pump water out of a 5 gallon mop bucket up to a wall sink?
10 years ago1 Answer
A: If you want to keep the bucket on the floor the sink would need to be very close to the floor. Like no more than 2'. If your sink is at a standard 3' go with the longer model. The pump need 2 hands to operate so the hose will need to be comfortably in the sink. I bought the small model to get water out of a toilet. For this purpose the it is perfect as the bucket can be one the floor and the hose empties into a 5 gal bucket. I hope this helps.

Q: How does this deal with dirty water? Any filter to keep debris out of the pump? Sandy or muddy water bother it?
11 years ago4 Answers
A: No filter, but pump is not bothered by muddy water or sand, it will pick it up and eject it. I use it daily for my dinghy and it is always pushing mud and sand.

Q: How high will this pump pump? I want to use it for wetting a water slide on my dock where there is no electric for an electric pump. The water will prob be 8 or 9 ft from the water.
12 years ago1 Answer
A: I have never tried pumping uphill more than a foot or so. If it is just a matter of a longer hose, it should work. It will provide yu th plenty of exercise.
