Did the job
Topside primer is unusually thick right out of the can. I didn't thin it because I wanted to take advantage of it's alleged 'high build' characteristic. It sands fairly easily but not quite as easily as other primers I've used. It dries fast. As suggested in other reviews, applying multiple thin coats is better than one thick coat.

I think I got a bad batch of topside Primer
a year ago
The primer was clumpy and it took a while to mix up,when I rolled it on it did not cover the fairing compound or other imperfections,I've used this product before on my other boat it worked fine, anyway I gave up and just painted over it.

Topside down primer

I wish the label was correctly oriented. It dries a little too fast and leaves brush strokes. I like that is fills small cracks.

I would not recommend this product for its intended use

The thinned primer left heavy brushed texture . The primer when dry was gummy and unsandable.

Be careful not to apply too thick
Oh and all the product worked exactly as it should've done. I used it over MDF and applied the wet edge topcoat. I think my only issue was I applied to thick instead of Wheaton the minimum amount of time as described on the Ken I had to wait 24 hours for it to dry appropriately.

Nice Top Coat Setup
I used the product as the setup for a two-coat application of Wet Edge Topcoat Paint. This primer was very easy to use, and it appeared to be a nice setup for the Wet Edge. I applied it as the primer coat on a fiberglass repair project. The Wet Edge Topcoat paint that went over the primer coat achieved an excellent finish and appearance.

Worked good, a little thin but I didn't need to be fussy as it was going under Total Tread.

Good Paint
Nice thick primer. I always thin it out a bit with TB Brushing Thinner 100. Dries real hard within a few hours, and I light sand it the next day before applying topside paint. Goes on well with 1/4 in. rollers from big-box stores. I use a chip brush for the cracks and corners. Topside paint sticks well to this primer after a light sand with 220 grit or 320 grit paper.

Be sure to mix thoroughly, this is thick! Helpful to fill in minor imperfections then sand before top coating.

Nice product that is easy to use and clean up.

I am preparing to do a complete topside paint job and wanted to do a small sample for experience. I laid up a 2x2 sheet of fiberglass, sanded and faired for the primer coat. The primer lays down in a thick even coat and was easy to sand before painting. It does cover the small imperfections that may have been missed from fairing. Great product and excited to get to the topside project.

Mixed Results
This primer is a mixed blessing. On the one hand it goes on thick and so fills in minor defects. But it dries too fast and, if rolled, isn't smooth when done so you have a lot of sanding to do before top coat. And it sands harder than the automotive primers I switched to. All in all I would not purchase again. I'd use a high quality automotive primer.

Forever to dry

Applied primer and had waited two days. Light sand to prep for top coat. Still was not dry and gummed up my sanding materials. Very unhappy as I had to remove all the primer and start over.

Used it for my boat and not impressed at all. Drying time is supposed to be about 3 hrs. When it actually was about 10 minutes! Very difficult to get a good even coat applied.

Be careful of conditions
A few comments, first if you apply in hot HUMID conditions, even watching thickness and application method, make sure it is really, really dry before top coating. It was dry to the touch and to a very light sand, but when top coated with Wet edge the primer spots stayed gummy for days. Wound up sanding right back and starting again, much thinner coats (applied with a foam brush) and drier conditions. But the thinner coats mean it does not cover the TotalFair, which I really like, well at all. I have a white hull and I am working on the 3rd coat of primer and the darkness of the total fair is still not covered. So, not too impressed. Perhaps it works beautifully in a climate controlled shop, but not in my boat shed.

I haven't painted wooden boats since the late 50's so I'm new to new technology but from what I've seen of this primer it's the toughest, most tenacious paint I've ever used.

we used a spray gun, went on and turned out beautiful, as with any black paint like this, make sure the surface prep has no defects, all ""dips,"" waves, sanding scratches, because they will show, with that said, and metalic pcs mixed in it came out beautiful.
