3M Marine High Gloss Gelcoat Compound has a unique formulation that reduces slinging while buffing.
Best results are obtained when used with a 3M Superbuff Pad (3M-05700) or 3M Hookit Compounding Pad (3M-05711) on a slow-speed polisher (1500-2500 RPM).
Follow with 3M Marine Finesse-It II Finishing Material (3M-09048) for a clean and high-gloss finish.

Great Compound
I have a 30 year old Pursuit I am restoring. The fiberglass had been out in the sun neglected for the past 15 years. Gelcoat had oxidized so bad if you touched it you came away looking like you had touched ""wet paint"". I originally used 3M Compound and Polish. Boat Shop that's doing my re-power gave me a sample of the High Gloss Gelcoat Compound. It's quicker and achieved just as polished a finish as the 3M Compound and Polish....and cheaper by the gallon. I was using a 3M 5719 wool compound pad. People stopped by and could not believe the resurrection of the gelcoat.

Q: I have a White Melges 24 and the gelcoat is oxidize pretty bad. It was suggested that I use the 3M Super Duty Rubbing Compound then I came across this. Which would work better? I have a DeWalt variable speed polisher. What do I need to do the job right?

A: You can use either system, you would want to use Finesse-It II Finishing Material with this system. Use the same or equivalent with the Super Duty Rubbing Compound. Use with a 3M Superbuff Pad (3M-05700) or 3M Hookit Compounding Pad (3M-05711) on a slow-speed polisher (1500-2500 RPM).
