Durable shine
I have been using this varnish for many years; on Douglas Fir, Bald Cypress and Western Red Cedar. As long as I avoid full sun and cold weather, it applies with ease and levels nicely before turning tacky. I do have to move right along and always tip-off back towards the wet edge. If the finished wood gets regular sun exposure, I really have to scuff-sand and apply a new coat once every year or two. By so doing, it looks good for a long time.

I've spread quite a bit of varnish in my 85 years of living and this is by far the absolute best.

Most Durable Marine Finish for Bright Work
11 months ago
Over the pat 45 years I have tried every varnish on the market for Marine Brightwork usually Mahogany (Phillipine (Meraanti,Lauan), Honduran, Brazillian, and African), Sapele, very old sun cured Teak no longer oily, and any hardwood on which I want to highlight grain and color. I have tried Urethanes, 1 part, 2 part and 3 part. I always come back to Epiphanes High Gloss Varnish. In my opinion a Tung Oil based finish with its amber color provides the most beautiful depth of finish which highlights and accentuates the beautiful color and grain of these exotic and durable hard woods. Application requires a little more effort than the synthetic urethanes, requiring multple coats with roughingbtye surface between coats-but aesthetic and durability results are unmatched and wirth the effort. This product has been highly prized since 1902 and certainly earns the appelation Gold Standard of Marine Bright Work finishes in my opinion

Crunch

While it did not effect the use of the product, every single can of the six was damaged in some form. Also notice there must have been a slight change in the chemistry of the product as it flowed more than previous incarnations; fine for application but time will tell about longevity.
