Product Details

Raritan Water Heaters provide hot water for galleys and showers. Dense foaminsulation provides better and longer heat retention than traditional fiberglass. The tank itself is protected by a 75 PSI T&P (temperatureand pressure) relief valve. The cylindrical design of the tank enables it to withstand more pressure than a cube shaped tank. Heat exchanger models can be connected to the engine cooling system. This provides the added convenience of hot water underway or when generator power is not available.

Questions

1 - 7 of 7 Questions

Q: Someone replaced the water heater in my Bluebird Wanderlodge with a Raritan water heater. They used radiator hose to connect to the fittings. Is this a normal practice?

1 Answer

A: Use of radiator hose is common for running engine coolant through the heater coils of the water heater. It is not used on the potable water side of the heater.

Q: Where on the unit is the adjustment for the water temp?

A: Unfortunately, the PDF does not want to download. There is no obvious knob, etc, on the water heater to turn the water temp up or down, which to my way of thinking is a poor way to design such a device.

Q: for those of you who replaced an old water heater....what was wrong with the old one! Mine is not currently working, and I was thinking it has to be the thermostat or heating element...what else can go wrong?

A: Raymond, Thanks but I think I'll try a new thermostat and element before sinking $700+ if I don't have to. Mike

Q: will this rust on in the boat?

A: I don't think so. The tank is encased in foam. My previous Raritan only lasted about thirty years.

Q: Repacing the R-6 (older Raritan 6 gallon water heater with heat exchanger) on my sailboat. The R-6 is 14 inches across and I have to squeeze it through the lazaretter opening. The new one is advertised as being 14.5, which won't fit. Is it really 14.5 or is that allowing for some safety margin? What is the exact measurement, and how does taht bottom mounting work? Does it come off? Or is THAT teh 14.5 measurement?

1 Answer

A: The 14.5__quote__ width refers to the actual unit. The base (flange) is 16.5__quote__ wide. I don't know if they have changed their design over the years, but I would recommend you contact Raritan directly to discuss this further. The base flange can be screwed to a deck for the 6 gallon model.

Q: I have a 48 ft Offshore Sedan built in 1997 . The existing Hot water heater uses the heat produced by the engine or the electrical . It is a 14 gallon tank . Is there any reason to believe that this on would not work on my boat ?

A: It will work just fine. Raritan produces an excellent product. The hook up is simple and the enclosed instructions are more than adequate. If you haul your boat for the winter and you winterize make sure you plumb in a drain valve on the cold water inlet as there is no drain on the tank itself. There are also kits for winterizing hot water tanks if you use RV antifreeze (pink stuff) so you don't have to fill the hot water tank.
