Product Details

TotalBoat Danish Teak Sealer penetrates, seals, and preserves both hard and soft woods. Protect wood against the elements with this easy-to-use single part coating.

Danish Teak Sealer contains unique anti-fungal biocides that prevent the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew over the course of the wood's natural life. It minimizes graying and staining brought on by extended exposure to UV rays, salt, and humidity.

Two coats will restore and seal the natural beauty of the wood, providing water repelling properties without becoming slippery underfoot.

Q: null Would this product work well for an indoor teak dining table? I'm looking to refinish a mid century modern teak table that is spotty and water stained

A: The Danish Teak Sealer is a penetrating oil finish that will leave the teak in a natural non-glossy finish. It is slightly yellowish but will be mostly clear when applied. It will not hide water stains. Best to use the Totalboat Teak cleaner first.

Q: null What sealer do you recommend for new above-deck (exposed) companionway door made from a Brazilian wood which may be Cumaru, Garapa or Jatoba. It closely resembles teak in grain and color. I do not want to use a varnish due to future maintenance requirements. I have used Deks Olie #1 (spelling?) in the past and am looking for something similar and maybe that is as good as any sealer.. Thanks.

A: This is an excellent product. Like all teak oils it is easier to apply than varnish, however, it will need to replenished more often.

Q: null Can I overcoat weathered Danish Teak Sealer on teak drop boards with Halcyon Varnish without resorting to AB cleaners?

1 Answer

A: Sorry, but Halcyon will not adhere to oiled wood. If you clean it well with acetone, wait it out, and let it weather you can probably apply halcyon aftr a good sanding.

Q: null Two months after applying the product, there are black mildew spots as well as water spots on my brand new set of teak patio furniture. Set was sanded and wiped down, before applying 3 coats of Danish Teak sealer. Set is in the Sun, no trees around. Any ideas as to why this is happening, would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike.

A: Sorry, I can't explain it, but I had the same experience the first time I used it . My furniture looked horrible. After aggresively cleaning, drying and reapplying (already paid for it, you know) I uncovered the furniture this spring to to find several inexplicable bald spots, as if we had missed the same areas in 3 applications. Per EPA guidelines, we used vinegar to clean up the mold. If you don't mind a 2d unsatisfactory application, try what I did, or find another product.

A: Sorry I have no way of knowing when you can apply oil over your existing finish. You can test it on an inconspicuous spot or perhaps test it on a piece of scrap wood. Here's a link to the application instructions: https://doc.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/pdfs/TotalBoat/TotalBoat_Danish_Teak_Sealer_TDS_1.19.18.pdf

Q: null How is the longevity of this on a boat that gets full sun all day, every day from May-October? Looking for a product that will hold up AND look good for AT LEAST a full season. Considered CETOL, varnish, and poly but the caulk beneath the toe rail has begun to deteriorate allowing water intrusion that would lift a film building product. Thanks so much, Jon

A: Hi Jon, I did use TotalBoat Danish Teak Sealer when I completely redid the toe rail on my Beneteau 46. The Cetol I had used since owning the boat once again started lifting because of water intrusion so I scrapped and sanded down to bare wood. I them re-caulked the entire toe rail using 4200 to prevent any water issues and finally I applied 2 coats of the Teal Sealer. It did completely soak into the wood, and to your point, did not build up a film coating. It was not shiny as the Cetol was but I thought it looked great. Made it though a whole season looking good. The best part was when I applied another few coats the following year the preparation was a cinch. Because there was not film coat to remove, it was just a quick once over with a bit of sandpaper and I was good to go. The Teak Sealer is super easy and quick to apply. It has the consistency of water so I found the best way to apply it was with a clean rag. I am not sure how much better this is than regular boat teak oil but the folks at Jamestown told me that it would last a bit longer. Hope this helps. Steve

A: Hi Robert. Danish Teak Sealer will hold up well, you should expect that you will need a maintenance coat during the season.
