NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE IN WOODEN BOATS

Bought one of these to control my 3rd onboard bilge pump in the aft section of the hull. The vessel is a 1970 58Ft Trumpy...Problem with this switch is that when the water level comes up to turn the pump on, all's well. However, when the water level comes back down the switch does not turn off. Only way I found to get the switch to turn off is to wipe off the two sensors with a paper towel! So, multiple times I've found the pump running continually with absolutely no water present. Just ordered a more conventional float switch, Johnson brand, to resolve this issue...I would not recommend this device based on this experience.

Unreliable junk. Stay away.

Had two of these. One in the bilge failed ""off"" (thankfully had a second pump powered by a different brand switch). One in shower sump failed ""on"".

JUNK

Expensive! It has cost me two starters that were ruined by high water (Rain filled bilge after auto switch failure). My 2006 Glastron SX190 Volvo Penta sits on a powered boat lift alongside my dock throughout boating season but is subject to rainfall that fills the bilge when the magnetic reed switch fails when water seeps in. I have disassembled the failed switches and found the black enclosures had leaked and the inside connections were saturated and corroded. It is only May and another Johnson/Mayfair unit has failed already. I don't want to have to replace another starter so I'm looking for the best bilge pump and switch that is RELIABLE. Expensive doesn't necessarily mean the BEST (especially in this case).
