Product Details

Compact Teleflex Baystar steering systems are designed to fit even the narrowest of splashwells. Intended for hydraulic steering on boats in the lower horsepower range. For outboard engine applications over 150 hp, choose one of the Seastar systems.

Teleflex intended BayStar HK4200A steering kits for single-outboard powered boats rated up to 150 HP, including runabouts and inflatables and outboard engines with ABYC standard engine tilt tubes up to 150 HP (total). For single station, single engine use only.

BayStar steering kits are not intended for high speed, high performance type boats, such as Bass Boats.

Info & Guides
BayStar steering kits include everything necessary for installation: helm, cylinder, tubing, fittings and fluid. For your convenience, enough cut-to-fit tubing for either a 20' or 30' run is included.

The HK4200A (20 ft) kit includes Teleflex compact cylinder HC4645H. If a Cylinder other than HC4645H or HC4658H is required, purchase of field replaceable pivot plates will be necessary.

Works great

This makes my 2004 Boston Whaler with 60 hp Mercury feel like a new boat. It's easy to steer and no feedback means I can take my hand off the wheel and it will continue on track with little correction. Fairly easy to install, but I have a lot of outboard experience. Instructions were ok.

The Baystar hydraulic steering system met all my expectations, was fairly easy to install, and has proven reliable with no issues in five years of salt water use.

A: This BayStar kit would work, but if you want a tilt helm, you will have to go to a SeaStar classic tilt steering kit TEL-HK6400tc3.

Q: null I have a 100 hp mercury and I would like to hook up my 8 hp yama to the big motor .What sort of gear do I need for the steering kit?

1 Answer

A: Mac G, if your rigging a trolling set up to steer with your big motor generally the 2 engines are linked up with a separate link rod not attached to the hydraulic steering in any way. You can Google Walleye trolling videos to see how the boats are rigged. Some steering links do attach to the engines steering link but the Bay Star ram assembly takes up a bit of room and will probably interfere with a front mounted link.

Q: null hard to steer at low speed?

A: The Bay Star steering system steers about like a good mechanical steering except it has zero feedback. Some people expect an experience similar to power steering but the Bay Star system does not feel like power steering. The Sea Star steering system on the other hand does. I install both in my business, the guys who use a suicide knob prefer the Sea Star system because of the sense of __quote__power steering__quote__. I hope this helps.
