Great for Clench Nailing
I bought two packs of 25 for clench nailing 1/4"" butt-straps to 1/4"" ply hull sides. The tacks clenched over quite well, even without separately hammering over the tip. All I had to do was just pound in the tack while holding a bucking iron on the other side. I saved a lot of money by just getting the 25 pack of ""oar tacks"" instead of a pound of the same thing under the name ""copper cut tacks"".

Size of Tack

The head of the tack is 6mm in diameter. They look well constructed. I am using them on my wooden firewall on my Model T.

A: Yikes! Pretty small but large enough to quite adequately hold the leather. Use needle nose pliers to hold the tacks while hammering. Use plenty of tacks and wax generously to bed , preserve, and prevent rot. No problem....>>>

Q: null Are these rust proof. I was looking for stainless tack?

A: I used the copper tacks to put leathers on a pair of oars I made. They have been in brackish water many times and have not rusted.

Q: null WHAT IS SIZE OF THE TIP OF THIS NAIL? I WANT TO USE IT TO FIX A STEEL COMPONENT TO A WOOD PRODUCT WITH 0.5MM HOLE IN IT

A: You will probably have galvanic problems. I'd use some stainless steel boat nails. m You can cut them if too long.

Q: null What is the approx. diameter or gauge of this tack's shaft at it's widest point (right by the head)? And, from the close up photo it appears to be square in cross-section, is that correct? And solid copper, yes? Thank you!

A: Sorry for the delay. The shank at the head is .080 inch. The widest point is about 1/8 inch below the head and it is .085 inch. The head is .250 inch (1/4__quote__). LOA is .830 inch. Remember that the product is a stamped item and there will be some small differences in the measurements from tack to tack. We use them for oar leathers only. Windwalker Boats

Q: null can you have it without head ?
11 years ago4 Answers
A: I'm not sure what application there would be for a tack without a head. If on oars and you did not want it to show then just stitch the leather.
