Just the right finish. Rough cast. Goes well with the boat.

I like the heavy robust castings. Nicer hardware than some of the cheaper imports. The bronze holds up well in saltwater.

Q: what is your suggested method for securing the oar lock in the socket? Is there a bolt or special wire spring that can be secured to the oar lock to keep the lock in the socket?

A: There are a lot of conventions that I have seen. Some people pin them, some use a cotter ring, some people attach a few inches of fishing like or thin rope and tie a washer on the end (allows the oarlock to come out of the socket, but the oarlock stays attached to the socket--this is done when the boat needs to be flipped over or removed to get it out of the way). Some people just take a small piece of like and tie it off also.

Q: If I purchase the 7ft Canadian Spruce oars, what size of opening do i buy?

A: My oarlocks came with 2 inch openings. Unless you intend to put leathers on your oars, they should fit. Better yet, measure the thickness of the oars and if they are over 2 inches wide, they won't fit.
