Used a router to carve a ""bed"" in the wood to install this lifting handle flush with the trap door. It's just what we wanted and needed!

Perfect fit

This Seachoice Flush mounted lifting handle is an exact replacement for the one installed at the factory in 1975 when my boat was built. I think that the only way it could be improved would be to spring load the handle so it would return itself to the stowed position.

Exact Replacement for original part
The handle exactly replaces the factory installed part on my 37 year old Gibson houseboat. There is no way of knowing the brand of the lifting handle that was replaced but the Seachoice handle was identical to the original. The fit was perfect.

Q: null how much weight can this pull without breaking/bending etc.?
9 years ago2 Answers
A: I have not bolted one of these handles to the overhead and attached weight to it until it breaks but I know that with it screwed to mahogany with 1__quote__ #8 screws that the screws will pull out of the wood before the handle breaks. I replaced the piece of wood, re-bedded the handle using West System epoxy and 4 #8 screws. It regularly lifts a heavy hatch cover (approximately 125# with no problems.
