Product Details

The Johnson Bilge Alert High Water Alarm detects disruptions in a bilge pump from water or other fluids. The alarm is very small, easy to mount, and is held within a sealed case that resists all corrosion or potential damage from oil and debris.

The Johnson Bilge Pump Alert system utilizes a patented Mirus field effect detector cell that produces a micro-electrical field. When activated, the system triggers a 100db piezo alarm and LED light on the control panel. To prevent false alarms, water must disrupt the sensor for 8 seconds before going off. In addition, a 3-way rocker switch allows users to test, arm, and turn off the alarm.

sensor shorted out and burned melting the wires and water supply tube above it causing expensive to repair damage. this could ahve been much worse if the fuse and main circuit breaker did not trip. this unit should be recalled and discontinued. Contacted customer servcie three times with no response. Buy something else

A must Have safety device!

The most reliable of the bilge alarms as it has no moving parts. Early warning of high water in the bilge can save your boat from sinking. Extra lengths of wire must be added for most installations and running the wires from the bilge to the console can be difficult, but it's a small price to pay for the added safety this alarm offers. Also, no template is offered for cutting the hole for the switch and alarm panel. Nevertheless every boater should go to the trouble of installing one.

Sensing unit fails after a year or two

I use this alarm on my 35' lobster boat. The boat is in its 5th season and today (21 July 2010) was the second failure of the sensing unit. The sensor did not detect a high water level when the automatic portion of the bilge pump failed. Fortunately I checked the manual portion of the pump before leaving the mooring and found that the boat had an abundance of water in the bilge. It would be nice if the sensor could be purchased separately.

A: Yes you can. I used electric ties to attach mine to my rear bilge pump. Be sure an attach it high enough up that it will not trigger for every splash of water that hits it. It is very sensitive. The audible part of my alarm (the dash side) went out after a year but the red light still comes on when high water is encountered. Since I don't sleep on the boat it is no problem but a person could rewire it to a louder aftermarket speaker.

A: My experience was the same. I spoke to Johnson, they advised to mount the sensor with a rubber washer. Another option was to let it dangle free.
