Ideas on using.

This pump features a rugged Jabsco reversible pump and is well built. The unit is top heavy and the user should find some way to correct this either by leaving the unit in a large storage tub or by counterbalancing the unit by putting weight (brick) in the bottom of the pail or container. One shortcut that will simplify most oil changes (where less than one gallon of oil is used) is to put an empty one gallon container inside of the pail to contain the oil as it come out of the internal oil drain tube. The electric switch in the unit is subject to corrosion , therefore, indoor storage is recommended.

Excellent product

Product works well and is reasonably quick. I did purchase a brass connector rather than the supplied plastic one. Is definitely a cleaner way to change oil, just suck it out and then reverse the pump to empty out into oil bottles.

Jabsco pil changer

Pump worked very well. It is VERY top heavy and will tip over and spill oil when in use. Be careful not to pull on hose while in use as it will dump oi all over the place. The instructions did not indicate what the hose connection was for. After messing around with the small tube to put inside the dipstick I realized that my dipstick had the male end of the hose fittling. I put on the provided female hose fitting and WOW in less than two minutes my oil was now in the jabsco can. The ability to pump in two directions is wonderful as you can pump the waste oil back into the empty new oil jugs. A great product I recommend it, it sure worked well for me. Benny

Makes oil change simple and quick

First time owner and do it yourselfer of an inboard/outboard. No way would I consider taking my boat in for periodic service and oil change. I certainly didn't want to spend this much for a tool to extract the oil, but prorating the cost over the life of the boat...well, I justified it. The product works great. Very fast, no mess, and self contained. Will see how well it stands up over time, but a Five Star from me at this point!

Q: How well does this work and how long does it last? Will it last for more than 1 oil change? My last pump did not.

A: I have had a Porta Quick Oil changer for 10 years. It is on its 3rd boat. I also use it on the tractor and the automatic transmissions on my cars. The tubing will wear out or get lost and have to be replaced. If you have a boat with an in board engine that does not have an oil exchange system you need this.

Q: I have a Jabsco Porta Quick engine oil drain kit using a Jabsco pump. The face plate is smooth with a gasket. I am now using it to transfer diesel fuel. The gasket weeps. I think a face plate with an O ring of nitrile is available. Am I correct and do you supply it?
