Fuller set

This is the third set of these I've bought, and have bought numerous bits as well. First set was in a cardboard box, the most recent set is to replace that one. I keep one set in the shop, one on the boat ( 65' shrimp trawler ). Very good tools, American made, well worth the price.

Must have kit!

Most professionals keep two power drills handy, one loaded with a countersink and the other with a screwdriver bit to keep the changeover time to a minimum. It is a real workhorse. Home centers sell similar products but this is the best product I've used. Replacement taper bits are a good idea as they will break.

Perfect set for boat building

Fuller countersinks are probably the best investment you can buy for your shop. These bits are not just ""drill bits"" but are countersink system that allows you to get the perfect depth and size hole needed for your wood screw. I have drilled out countless thousands of holes with the #8 bit and can tell you that you can get superior holding strength from your screws by using this tapered bit. Thanks fuller for making my job precise!!

Q: I have to drill and countersink 34 feet of brass rub rail I will be installing on my new wood launch. Will this countersink set be able to cut the brass without dulling? I know they say they are for wood, but I am not sure if they would be hard enough to hold their edge to cut the brass.

A: Assuming that you will want to install the rub rail with screws every 6 inches or so, I do not se the countersink lasting for 60 plus holes. I think you will be better off with a countersink made to cut brass. Predrill the holes and follow with the counter sink.

Q: I am fastening a brass rub rail to a sapele rub rail on my 17' Gartside launch. I need to drill and counter sink the rail. Do you think these cutters are hard enough to cut the brass to counter sink the railing?

A: no I believe that you might cut a few holes if you go slow but the angle they are sharpened at is too steep and they will chip and dull promptly. an Industrial supply store(like Granger) will have metal cutting counter sinks that will fit 1/2__quote__ drill with a pilot hole the full size of your fastener you should be able to counter sink by hand and make it look professional. practice a few times on scrape to get a feel. I use to camphor by hand every thread hole on cast iron engine blocks with a counter sink meant for metal. Make sure the angle of the tool matches you fastener and the out side diameter is close to your fasteners. Best of luck

Q: With this product will I be able to predrill for silicon bronze wood screws to attach planking to flames, as well as cut the hole for my plug, all in one pass? The stop collar is adjustable for different thicknesses of planking?

A: I haven't used this tool for the purpose you describe, but yes: The bits are tapered and will drill for both pieces and the counterbore is adjustable. There's no reason you can't drill frame, plank, and plug bore in one pass.
