Well made hardware

Buck Algonquin hardware is made from good quality bronze and is machined to fit their brand. It is always a good idea to use sockets and oarlocks from the same manufacturer. Of course, you should never mix metals.

Q: Please clarify, from the picture it appears the brace screws to the inside of the gunnel and the socket is completely above the rail. Is this the case?

Q: what size screws do we use to mont these sockets ?

A: Look at what you are attaching the oar lock too. I used #8x1 1/4 screws as the gunnel permitted this thickness witthout penetration accross it. If it were thinner, I would use #8x1 inch screws. Predrill holes for screws with a 1/8 bit to avoid breakage of brass screws. If you have steel screws of the same size and thread, pass them first to cut the thread in the hardwood of the gunnel, then use the brass screws in their tract. As I remount the oar locks frequently in my guide boat going from solo use at mid ship to double use with the rower in the bow. To avoid stripping the threads, I harden the established threads with a few drops of crazy glue once the screws are out and take care to manually start the screws in the same track to avoid cutting new threads and stripping them.
