Product Details

Use SoftSand Rubber Sand Particles to create an attractive, flexible, skid-resistant surface that feels better, looks better, and lasts longer than sand or other abrasive non-skid paint additives. Compatible with urethane, epoxy, and acrylic topside paints. Easy to apply by either mixing (1 SoftSand pint to 1 paint gallon ratio) or broadcasting after applying base coat. Great for added safety on boat decks, hand grips, walkways, patios, pet ramps & more.

These spongy rubber granules are softer than standard abrasive non-skid additives, making them more comfortable to walk or kneel on. High-quality, durable granules have color pigment throughout, unlike other rubber non-skid additives made from recycled car tires, so the granules wear evenly & consistently, with no change in color. The long-lasting, stain-resistant surface remains attractive and easy to clean.

Choose White or Beige in Fine, Medium, or Coarse grade particles. Available in 1/4 Pint, Pint, Quart Sifter Bottle, and Gallon sizes.

Broadcast this product using the supplied sprinkler. Far superior to Awl Grip product as it is more coarse but not too rough.

Excellent results

I used the ""Medium grade Soft Sand"" on the cockpit floor on my sailboat in combination with ""Perfection"" [2- component polyurethane]. 1st stage - paint only // 2nd stage - masked areas - wet paint+ soft sand sprinkled on // 3rd stage brush off excess sand when dry [can reuse sand] // 4th stage - to get a uniform sand coverage I recoated and sprinkled again with sand & brushed off excess when dry // Final coat with Perfection. Note: I am using the ""Medium Grade"" for walking surfaces. ""Fine Grade"" for sitting surfaces.

Great product but I used a lot more than I thought.

I am very happy with this product. I used the white and purchased a small pack which I found to not give me the coverage that I wanted. I applied by painting the surface first, then spreading the Soft Sand . I waited a few hours for the paint to set up , then swept up the excess to reuse and applied two more coats of paint. This gave me a very uniform surface

I started with my hatches using Andy's method from boatworks today. Looks great and feels good. Still have the deck to do. It does take more paint that I thought. I'll post more when I complete the rest.

Used to to provide non-skid surface in my new pickup truck. Mix it with the mfr's paint code mixed into a Raptor truck bed product found at local automotive paint store, looks great and does the job. It is a poor man's option to Rhino Lining. Beware, it is difficult to get a perfectly even coat of the soft sand coating on the bed of the truck, you will end up with some areas of just paint- all depends on your painting ability and patience, but if you have matched the mfr's paint color, it all blends in fine. After all, it is a truck bed, not a visible area on a boat deck.

Soft Sand Non-Skid - Fine

Great product! The 1 pint bags are too small. I was only able to barely complete the cockpit decking. Spectacular results. I used the Soft Sand - Fine and recommend a good 100% coverage not sparse broadcasting. You need the right size sifter to accomplish this.. .

This works well

I bought the fine to sprinkle and was very happy. I wanted something more course and ordered the paint additive by mistake. I used this as a sprinkle onto wet paint and it worked just as well.

Perfect surface for safety and appearance.

I was going to use KiwiGrip but was looking for alternatives that were less course in appearance for the restoration of a Herreshoff America Catboat. I came across this product and gave it a try. I applied it by putting down one coat of Kirby's paint and applied the Softsand while the paint was still wet. Once it dried, I vacuumed up the excess (which you can collect and use again) and applied another coat of paint. The result was a soft yet slightly textured surface on my deck that was safe as well as not tearing up your feet or knees and looked great. I have aYouTube channel for my boat's restoration and will be producing the episode where I apply and review this product (Search YouTube for The Salvation Navy if you want to see it, released soon). I highly recommend this product and will certainly use it again anytime I need an economical, low maintenance, durable and safe non-skid marine surface.

Q: Can this product be used with varnishes? I would like a small area of nonskid on my varnished rowing seat.

3 Answers

A: Hi Dave, I think you could use the nonskid product with varnish. It is a sand-like product. For your seat, it might a bit scratchy. Stan *Message

Q: Hi, What kind of coverage can one expect from a quart bottle

1 Answer

A: Hi Nick. If you are mixing the particles into your paint, it is usually mixed at 1 pint of Soft Sand per gallon of paint. If you are using the broadcast method, please see the application guide here for coverage guidelines: https://doc.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/pdfs/SoftPoint_Industries/Application-Guide_Rev4.pdf

Q: I have a factory diamond shape non-skid texture on my deck. Would the fine particle version work with the pattern or would you not recommend trying to add non skid to it?

2 Answers

A: I would knock down your old non skid. Then use the soft sand by itself. It will definitely give a good non skid surface and is pretty easy on bare feet.

Q: Hi, Is this added directly to the paint or ""sprinkled"" on after, with another coat to seal?

A: Hi there, thank you for reaching out. To answer your question, both. You can either use the mix in method or the broadcasting method. Below is the website to the application guide. Q: Is there much difference between Wet Edge with this stuff added and painting with Total Tread? I've already have a can of Wet Edge and I need to redo the no skid

2 Answers

A: Hi Steve, Thank you for reaching out. You can definitely go that route with the Wet Edge and the Soft Sand, the main difference will be the sheen of the paint, the Totaltread is flat sheen where the Wet edge will be gloss.

Q: Hi, this is Steve again. After I apply the soft sand I need to put two coats of paint on top of nonskid to seal it down. It will be hard to only paint nonskid areas without taping off the areas around it. Surrounding areas have already been painted. That's why I was thinking that I would have to tape a total of three times. Does that sound right?

1 Answer

A: Yes, you are correct.

Q: Hi, i have a question about softsand applying with a broadcast method. I will be taping the area to be applied. The question is do I need to pull and retape After nonskid application and the following two coats of paint? Thanks

A: I agree. It's best to remove tape between coats

Q: Good morning, we are going to use soft sand on our sailboat, but we are making the non skid areas a dark grey. With the sand being beige or white, will specks of white show thru the dark grey. And with wear and tear will it show thru?

3 Answers

A: Hey Mac, Thank you for reaching out. It's usually okay. Over time if the paint wears it can be more noticeable than using Gray beads. However, typically if your paint is wearing to that point you usually have bigger issues on your hands and would recoat that area either way.

Q: Would this soft sand be suitable for mixing into an epoxy topcoat over a concrete garage floor? I want a non-skid that's sympathetic to bare feet.

3 Answers

A: I mixed the medium grade Soft Sand into the paint and used it for the bottom of my rowboat. I was very pleased with the result. I suggest you try medium and coarse mixtures on some sample areas before committing to the whole garage surface.
