Product Details

MAS FLAG Epoxy Resin is a medium body epoxy specifically designed to be used as an adhesive and structural laminating foundation. It's thicker formula resists sagging in vertical applications. Medium viscosity works well with fillers when fairing putties, gluing slurries and filleting systems are required.

When mixed with medium hardener, FLAG is more reactive than low viscosity MAS resin. This keeps fillets and fairing compounds from slumping. FLAG resin can be sanded the next day when cured at 60 degrees F or warmer with Medium Hardener. Use with all MAS hardeners. Note: For filled applications, we recommend using MAS Medium Hardener.

We highly recommend this resin for general purpose gluing applications where wet-out of fiberglass is not a consideration, and for filleting and fairing.

Available in Quart, Half Gallon, Gallon, 4 Gallon, and larger sizes.

Info & Guides
MAS FLAG epoxy is also suitable for fast wet-out of light to medium weight fabrics, laminating, gluing, barrier coating and cold molding.

    MAS Epoxy

I prefer MAS epoxy to the other brand. The reason being that I can more precisely control cure times with the four different hardeners. They can be combined for even further control or to use up existing stock. I've been using MAS for many years now, and have never had a runaway heating problem, even with thicker applications. Since the ratio is 2:1, manual mixing is possible when a pump fails.

We are redoing the decks on an Alberg 35. There was quite a bit of delamination and water damage. We have cut out bad areas and reglassed. Mas is extremely easy to mix and use. We have used over 5 gal so far.

It's easier to pour in large amounts and is forgiving when your measuring isn't right on.

    Good stuff

Very usable odor-free product. Good pot life and strong too. Be careful with the resin pump though -- FLAG resin is thicker, so the pump return stroke is slower. Rushing the pump may reduce the amount of resin in the mix.

This is a great product. We are rebuilding the deck on a Alberg 35. This product has a long working time when mixed with the slow hardner or medium hardner. It has no odor and can actually be cleaned up with white vinegar. It is sandable too.

    Best wood repair

I have used MAS epoxies to build 2 wood kayaks and repair 4 sailboats. The kayak went down the Missouri River in 2003 and is still functional and beautiful today.

Q: null Can this product be used for thicker pours I am interested in 3"" to 4"" pours. Is it chippy to put on a lathe and turn. Clarity?

A: No it can't. All epoxies are exothermic meaning they give off heat. A thick mass like you propose would kick off way too soon and just be a mess.

Q: null I've been using MAS epoxy to fiberglass my cedar strip kayak. I'm looking to buy another gallon to finish it up and noticed you don't recommend it for fiberglassing. How come?

    5 Answers

A: Not at all. It is great for fiberglassing. I like the fact that it is very thin (and can be thinned more) for penetration of wood, which is what I use it for. I don't glass regularly, but MAS would be fine for it. Love the product!

Q: null im repairing the deck of a sailboat and will be laying down anti-skid pads on top of the repair area. will the Anti Skid fiber backing bond to the MAS resin if I use as an adhesive?

A: I have used epoxy to bond non-skid additives. Apply the epoxy and sprinkle on the grit. Paint over it. Worked better than any nonskid pad I have seen.

Q: null Can I use MAS Flag Epoxy to laminate Oak frames in a large wooden boat or is it to hard and not flexible enough., and if so what type of epoxy can I use.?

A: William, I have not used MAS for laminating yet sorry I can not speak dirrectly to your question. I have been sealing wood projects with it and am very pleased with the clear stable out come. The MAS I have is the medium viscousity. I suggest looking at the thicker product so that the joint is less likely be to dry. Steve, Good luck.
