Make sure it's for your boat

When I installed it I turned the boat left it went right. I reversed the cable and drilled new holes to secure the cable into the steering gear. Actually I didn't need a new gear because the cable would have worked with my old gear

Rehabbed a 13' classic Whaler with new mahogany and 2019 Yamaha F40. Telefax Safe-T II NFB installed perfectly using supplied template to cut and drill through new console. Cable is a bit stiff, but, careful installation planning made it easy to install. Sea trial was thrilling with new motor complimented by excellent steering control.

This steering head is just as it says- no feedback. It takes a bit more force to turn than a no feedback, but the trade is well worth it to not have the wheel ""drift"". Paired with the Edson Power knob, the combo is easy to use. I would advise anyone replacing a steering head to purchase this. I would like to thank the salespeople at Jamestown, they are very knowledgeable with all their products.

Q: How do I measure, to determine the proper length of a new mechanical steering system? I plan to install it on a small skiff with a 40 hp Evinrude outboard. Dashboard and steering wheel position is customized, i.e., placed where I wanted it. Thanks.

A: Lots of info online. West Marine's how to section illustrates this.

Q: I would like to order a steering cable separately for this helm(SH5150P). The cable part number that I would like to order is TEL-SSC6209. The part numbers shown in the drop down box for this helm are different, for example TEL-SS13211 (the C is missing). Will the cable I want to order work with this helm?

A: No those numbers are for the complete system with helm and cable. Here's a link to the correct page to order from: https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/product/product-detail/98166

Q: I have a Boston Whaler 13 ft. I want to put a NFB safe-T II steering system in. I need a 9 ft. cable. I have parts from old system (Benzel, Bracket) I think I only need the helm and cable. is this correct and can I purchase the items separately
5 years ago1 Answer
A: Hello I purchased the cable and helm together only because my helm was loose and worn. I'm almost sure it's less expensive purchasing the two together. I own an older Montauk. I thought the 13' Whalers had the old rope and pulley steering. Good luck TD
