Product Details

Our Oakum caulking is made with bentonite, an inorganic compound that expands over 10 times its volume when wet and does not split. The fibers are clean from knots and yarns, long stranded and have no lumps or ends of sacking. Twisted jute packing. Further improved with golden oils.

Oakum is the best choice to seal cast iron pipes for plumbing, pack hooves as a farrier, and caulk wide gaps in wood planking. For varied planking, keep some Caulk Wicking on hand for tight spots, and Caulking Cotton for medium-space gaps. Typically, on boat seams Oakum caulking is next covered by a marine paint. Once dry, fill the remaining space with seam compound (one for above waterline, another for below) before applying final topcoat.

Used the oakum to pack a toilet flange joint before pouring in the molten lead. It worked great. I wasn't sure if marine oakum was going to work for this job, but it worked fine.

Oakum repair

We used this product to stop leaks between the recently installed headgates of a Dam and the failed concrete wall. The oakum was easly to apply and stopped the leaks, allowing us to install permanent repairs.
