Product Details

Forespar 'Y'-Valves and Connectors are molded of high strength glass-reinforced Marelon. Offering an improved, stronger handle design, our valves are available in a 1-1/2" barb size.

'Y'-Valves are an essential piece of equipment when the flow of water or other fluids are required to be conveniently diverted, as in a marine head application where a holding tank is utilized. They are easily mounted to a bulkhead. The valves are operated by a simple 120 Degree movement. Positive stops are provided between positions.

IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO INSTALL Y-VALVES BELOW THE WATERLINE

All critical hose connections should be double clamped at both ends. Ideally, the hose clamp screws should be mounted opposite one another for maximum security. Use the highest quality AWAB hose clamps for longest life and best performance.

Well made valve and easy installation.

Replaced a broken ""Y"" valve on an old O""Day sailboat. Configuration of new valve was about the same as the old one so installation was very easily done. Valve operates with minimal effort, as it should and design clearly shows direction of flow.

Marelon Diverter Valve

Beefy valve. Don't expect ball bearing like movement with the valve handle; this unit takes some heft for changing valve position, but for seldom used applications should prove very reliable. I would prefer that the hose barbs were longer for those times when you want a second ring clamp on the sanitation hose.

Questions

1 - 3 of 3 Questions

Q: We have a Y valve for our holding tank discharge. From the holding tank, the hoses go through the Y valve and then onto the thru-hull. One end/curve of the round dial has written open flow. The arrow (not v or smiley face handle) pointing is pointing at the open flow part of the circle. Does this mean the flow is open straight through the valve to the thru-hull? I have a picture to help.

A: The arrow points at the hose you want to direct the discharge to.

Q: Can the marelon Y-Valves and Y-connectors be installed below the water line?

A: I would not install below the w/l without a loop above the w/l and a siphon break.

Q: Which valve position determines direction of flow.?

A: Hi! Sorry it took me so long to reply... With the valve sitting on a table, look at the handle and orient the arc of the FLOW arrow so that it is curving up like a smile. The leg on the right determines the direction of flow. Double-check that by blowing through that leg with the flow arrow just as it is. Air should exit through the left leg. Now turn the handle the only way it will turn and the arc of the Flow arrow should now be pointing from that upper right leg to the lower one. Blow through it to be sure, but the air should now be exiting through the lower leg. This configuration will allow you to fill, say, two fresh water tanks from a deck plate, one at a time. One tank will, however, continue to be open to the deck plate so consider On/Off valves in conjunction with a Y-valve. Notice too that you can turn the handle and re-orient the valve to the 'smile' position and the inlet leg remains the one on the right.
