Product Details

TotalBoat Thixo is a thickened epoxy adhesive that gives you the reliability and strength of a modern 2:1 epoxy system in an easy to use 185ml cartridge. This convenient point and shoot system is ideal for bonding wood, metal and fiberglass above or below the waterline.

Thixo cartridges fit most standard caulking guns. Lay a bead of this non-sagging adhesive to vertical or overhead surfaces. TotalBoat Thixo cures to a hard, translucent surface that can be drilled, painted, or sanded. This no-mess, no-hassle versatile 2:1 epoxy system comes equipped with two free static mixing tips to ensure accurate mix ratio upon application every time. Ideal working temperatures range from 50-80 degrees F.

Cartridges are available individually and in packs of (6) cartridges. Additional mixing tips sold separately.

Note: For use in manual caulking guns only. Do not use with pneumatic gun.

Info & Guides
COVERAGE: 185 mL coverage is 15 linear feet at a 1/4 in. diameter bead.

NOTE: Thixo cartridges have a slightly offset nozzle that fits most, but not all, caulk guns. Caulking applicators used with Thixo need to have a hole large enough for the mixing tip; cartridges won't fit applicators with only a small hole for the nozzle. For best results, use a caulk gun with an 8 to 1 thrust ratio or higher.

So easy !!!

I used this Thixo to adhere 1/4"" marine plywood panels to the interior of my sailboat. No mixing and using battery powered caulking gun made it sooo easy. I highly recommend Thixo, I've been using all Total Boat products for my sailboat rehab and am very pleased.

The only issue for me is that I end up going thru a lot of tips, when I only need to use a little bit of Thixo.

Would purchase this product again

Easy to work with, and a good product. The price is extremely high for only getting one half of a tube. Like to know why this is the case for filling the tubes only half way.

Almost like I expected

THIXO worked as advertised. I used it to join (and fill) castle joints for a table using 6X6 legs and 3X4 rails made of re-purposed utility pole parts. My only surprise was that the tube ran out with half the plunger rod still protruding from the caulking gun. Upon careful thought, it all makes sense. Fortunately I had enough to complete the job.

Works great but expensive

Thixit works very well and is very convenient to use, but it is quite expensive. The tube size is misleading because only half the tube actually contains material. Avoiding the necessity to mix putty can be very helpful when one is working alone, and this factor can justify the high cost.

Q: Will this thixo bond to marine plywood after it has been coated with total boat penetrating epoxy?

1 Answer

A: Hi there. Yes, this product can bond to properly cured and prepped marine plywood treated with penetrating epoxy. After the penetrating epoxy has been applied, it needs to cure for 5-7 days. After cure, it must be washed with warm water, soap, and a scotch-brite pad, sanded with 220 grit paper, and cleaned with denatured alcohol or another suitable solvent before applying the Thixo over the top.

Q: Would the thixo 2:1 system work on aluminum stringers to aluminum panels on a ice fishing trailer

2 Answers

A: Hey Marewk, Thank you for reaching out. Our Thixo Flex could be used to that. The standard thixo will not have enough flex for Aluminum.

Q: What/Where do I find additional tips

1 Answer

A: Hi there. Thanks for reaching out. While we normally sell extra mixing tips by themselves, we are currently running low on stock and only have enough on hand to fulfill orders with the Thixo cartridges, so we are not selling the tips separately. However, the West System Six10 tips do fit Thixo cartridges and you can buy those separately here: https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/product/product-detail/52008 Just be sure to select the ""Static Mixer Nozzle Only"" option from the drop-down menu.

Q: Would this be the appropriate epoxy to reattach part of a teak plank that has lifted from the deck? The particular pieces are tapered to a point with no space for another screw and plug. It would be necessary to inject the adhesive between the deck and the wood. Optimal surface prep is uncertain.

1 Answer

A: Yes Thixo would be a good adhesive to attach the teak to the deck. It is currently out of stock, check back in a little while to see if it's back in stock.
