This was used to fill in the countersink over bronze flat head screws after a seacock installation. It applies easy, and sets up really fast. You can sand it smooth within an hour or two of application. Allows you to get more work done the same day.

Sets Up Too Fast

A ""golf ball"" sized blob of this filler is about as much as I could mix and apply before it began to set up. I had a deck area of about one square foot to fill and fair, and it took about five batches to get close to the final level. The sandability in half an hour is true, but I'm not on the clock, so I'll stick to epoxy fillers in the future.

I found this product easy to use. Yes, it sets up quickly but the instructions tell you not to mix a lot at one time. It sands easy and used it above and below the waterline. Good stuff!

Fast and Easy

Unlike the previous complaint I felt it was a great product. You must be cautious not to mix more than you can work in a few minutes. Do not mix in the can. Place a workable amount on a piece of scrap and add the hardner. Mix and use. You can sand in 30 minutes or less.

The working time is so short for this product that it is hard to usemore than a golf ball sized batch at one time. If you have a lot of holes to fill, find another product.

Working time too short

The instructions on the label show quantities to mix up to 8 oz of compound at one time. Good luck! You can not use more than about a golf ball size quantity before it sets up and is no longer usable. Good for VERY small repairs.

Q: can I apply 3M filler over west epoxy above the waterline?
a year ago2 Answers
A: No. It's a polyester based filler which will not bond to epoxy.

Q: If I'd seen a photo of the back of the can, where it says, ""Do not use over epoxy or lead"" I probably wouldn't have ordered it. However, the video embedded on this page, https://youtu.be/1t7pZ9p9c9A, shows exactly that...3M Marine Premium Filler being applied over carbon fiber that was wet out with epoxy resin (this video shows the wet out with Mas epoxy, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zl0-tZJyQ6E). So, I'm confused. Can 3M Marine Premium Filler (vinyl ester) be applied over epoxy?
2 years ago1 Answer
A: The 3M marine premium filler is a vinyl ester filler and doesn't adhere well to epoxy. If you do use it wash the epoxy with water, sand it with 80 grit and clean well with acetone.

Q: Is this product suitable to use to fill in where wet balsa coring has been removed? The area is 3/8 thick and about 4x4 inches. Coring wet near a rod holder fiberglasss and gelcoat above and below on the cockpit covering board. Looking for something solid to fill the area after all is dried out and suspect material removed

A: That should work. I sometimes use penetrating epoxy on rotted or suspect wood before filling. There's also a white Bondo product that might work out for you.

Q: A person used a lot of this product to fill mis-matches on marine ply. Will marine epoxy bond to this product, either with or without fiberglass cloth?

A: I've never had the need to do that application. I have used the filler on many occasions and works very well.

Q: is this product paintable with a non skid type product?
7 years ago4 Answers
A: Not sure about that. I used it below the waterline, covered it with 2000e barrier coat, and then Interlux bottom paint. I would try it myself if I had the need as it's strong stuff and sticks very well to things.
