Q: I need to patch some leaks in the top of a box truck -- the original sealant at the seams has failed. I plan to scrape off as much of the existing sealant as possible and apply new. What sealant do you recommend?

1 Answer

A: Sealants applied over the top of a seam generally will not keep water out. To work they must be sandwiched between two surfaces. In order to answer question properly, we need to know the materials being sealed. Please call the support center to speak with a tech that can guide you to the right product.

Q: I am buying a Renogy flexible solar panel and need to install it on the Sunbrella canvas top of my boat. They suggested this product.....will this work for my application?

1 Answer

A: From my experience, Sikaflex 252 is a decent adhesive sealant. But for my applications I always use 3M 4200, 5200 or 4000. My concerns in your application would be that this bound will be permanent and probably will not be able to clean it from the canvas. If your plan is to never remove that canvas for maintenance or never to fold it, that would be fine, but if not, I would stay away from putting any sealant on my Sunbrella, unless it is only to seal holes. Hope this helps!

Q: 1. Sika 252 was recommended to seal the windshield on my 1979 Jaguar XJ. This has a (synthetic) rubber seal that fits into the painted sheet metal opening and encloses the edge of the glass. (installation in that order) I was advised on sealing both interfaces after the parts are in place. Does this sound like a suitable application? 2. What is recommended for cleaning excess sealant off the paint & glass?

A: It will seal the painted metal, not best on rubber. Clean up with Sika Remover 208

Q: how much tensile stress it can carry?

1 Answer

A: I assume you are referring to the holding power of two objects __quote__glued__quote__ with the adhesive when two equal and opposite forces are applied to the two objects. In my opinion it has very high tensile stress but would be dependent upon the surface area covered. I used it to bond a waterproof insulation to a concrete foundation at it being quite fluid it seeped between the two a considerable distance. Once dried, the only way I could pull it apart was to pull the fiber insulation apart with parts of the insulation remaining behind still attached to the adhesive.

Q: I'm looking for an adhesive to mount solar panels to a rubber RV roof using __quote__Instapark__quote__ solar panel mounts. Will this product work?

2 Answers

A: That's exactly what I used it for and my panels remain firmly attached after 3 years and 30,000 plus miles. One difference is that my coach roof is solid fiberglass. I used the instapark mounts. Once this polyurethane adhesive cures it really sticks and is very tough. It does take several days to cure.

Q: hello , im just wondering weather a poly urethane typr glue would be the best for sticking and side mirror back onto the car. any suggestions ?

1 Answer

A: It is a good construction adhesive. For holding your mirror onto the car you probably want an epoxy (2-part requiring mixing). Be sure it offers good adhesion between metal and plastic, whatever brand you choose.

A: I ordered the Sikaflex 252 Polyurethane Adhesive from Jamestown so as to receive new replenished stock. I did not want to end up with tubes that have been sitting around for a year. This is a GREAT product !!
