A: Once fully cured, Sika 221 must be removed mechanically. Perhaps small traces of the material can be removed using 208.

Q: null Do I need to use the Sika Remover to remove the old 291 before I apply the 296? I am recaulking windows on a boat. Should I use the cleaner or primer instead or also?

A: I use a Sika product to create a hinge between main foil and the elevator flap on my foiling Moth (International Moth made by Bladerider). It is a very high load application and one that has only a small bonding area. We have found that sanding off any remaining old Sika was the sufficient, and then using the special Sika primer to prepare the surface thus created the strongest bond. It is very important to get ?¢??fresh?¢?? Sika. The shelf life is not very long and unfortunately due to shipment and warehousing time it takes to get from the factory to the US distributors/retailers and then into your hands most if not all of the ?¢??shelf?¢?? life is gone. We have also found that the technical help desk at Sika is a really good place to go for assistance. Hope this helps PBB

Q: null I sikaflex 291 used to seal between a 6__quote__ s/s tube and fibreglass. I can not get at the tube but could spray or apply Sika Remover. Once the Sika Remover is applied will it help to release the bonding property of sikaflex 291?

1 Answer

A: The remover will only work on UNcured material. Once its cured you may have to cut it away. Some solvents may soften the 291 which make it easier to remove cure rubber.
