Product Details

Beckson Pry-Out Deck Plates are water tight circular hatches that require prying to open. These hatches are excellent for marine applications, where access to voids is occasionally required. The circular hatch cover uses an extra heavy o-ring seal to assure watertight integrity. These hatches press in place to secure and pry out with an implement such as a screwdriver to remove. Hatch Plates are offered in white, neutral and clear. Clear models allow easy observation of gauges or visual inspection areas below. Two sizes are available, 6 inch and 7-5/8 inch ID. Hatch surfaces come in three varieties: smooth, non-skid and diamond textured.

deck plate dimensions

I was replacing a deck plate on my Searay I measured the existing deck hatch and the diameter was 6 inches. Order the 6 inch deck hatch and received a deck hatch with an opening of 6 inches but the hatch is actually over 7 inches in diameter it does not fit my application.

Q: null Is the back of this plate flat or does it require cut out ? If needed what is the cut out size? What is the thickness of the plate and r holes pre drilled?

A: Hi Mike, these do have a small flange that you will have to allow for, and cut out. The hole size depends on the diameter of the plate you are choosing. Holes are pre-drilled in the deck plate.

A: They must sit flat. If they are installed on a curved surfacethey don't close and seal up correctly.

Q: null Is there anything on the back of the ring to make it water tight or is this to be installed with silicone?

A: I don't think there was a rubber seal on the back side. Plan on silicon, just to be safe. More critical is how flat the surface. Mr transoms had a very slight curve to it, so I had to make sure I did not tighten flush to deck. In that case you might fill the gap with silicon. It's more important to ensure the plate sits flat in the back plate.

Q: null I have a 1982 mako 17.5 no standard 8__quote__ deck plates fit due to the beveled design of the oem plate. The holes line up perfect but the opening in the deck is appx 1/8 inch too small. Will this fit?

A: Anytime you have to replace __quote__anything__quote__ you can expect to do some modifications. If I understand the question, smaller in this case is a good thing. Any fiberglass __quote__hole__quote__ is going to be irregular so take a file or some 60 grit sandpaper and work the edge of the hole until the plate assembly will drop in. Hope this helps.

Q: null Am I measuring the interior diameter or exterior?

1 Answer

A: I wanted to replace an old existing plate, and measured the inside diameter, which was 6__quote__, and I presuming that these plates had std sizes, but they don't. Here's the story fyi - The old plate was vertically mounted and had an elec switch in the center of it that I had removed, so I wanted to replace the plate with the hole with a new plate. I measured the ID and ordered a new plate that I presumed would be the same size (again, I thought these were std sizes). I found that it was 1/8 inch larger that the plate I was removing, so I could not retrofit the new plate into the old frame cutout, or the new frame into the old cutout space. Ended up buying a plastic plug and using 3M 5200 to seal it into the hole in the old plate....probably what I should have done in the first place.
