InterProtect 2000E is a two-part epoxy designed to protect fiberglass boat hulls from water absorption and reduce the likelihood of gelcoat blisters. The fast drying formula touch dry in as little as 30 minutes based on the ambient temperature, with immersion in 8-24 hours.

Interlux's Micro-Plate formula creates an effective barrier against water permeation. You can use 2000E antifouling paint primer above and below the waterline as a universal primer for all surfaces. It is also an excellent priming coat for all metals and can be used as part of a no sand system.

Available in quart and gallons in 2 colors - Gray and White.

2.25 Gallon containers do not include 2001E Cure. Each 2.25 Gallon container requires the separate purchase of one INT-Y2001EG. For the proper mix ratio, combine 1 part curing agent with 3 parts barrier coat primer.

Info & Guides

InterProtect Primer Features:

  • Two-part epoxy water barrier with Micro-Plates
  • Up to two weeks is allowed between coats of 2000E
  • Now available in two colors, Gray and White
  • Fast drying, easy application
  • Sag resistance to insure the elimination of sags and runs during application

Technically, InterProtect Micro-Plates provide millions of overlapping microscopic plates that create a barrier similar to shingles on a roof. These overlapping Micro-Plates eliminate any direct path for water migration and also improve the sag resistance of the epoxy making application easier.

    What is Gelcoat Blistering?

Osmosis is caused by a chemical reaction between water and unreacted substances remaining in the manufactured hull. Water breaches the exterior gelcoat and reacts with the chemical components creating acidic substances. These substances create pressure behind the gelcoat which causes blisters and eventually cracking. Once the gelcoat is breached in this manner, the underlying laminate is capable of absorbing water like a sponge.

Use the Interlux InterProtect system to treat and help prevent this serious problem.

This formula helps you calculate how much paint is necessary for wetted surface area (i.e. under antifoulant paint). Calculate surface area as follows: Wetted Surface Area (WSA) = LOA x Beam x 0.85, then divide the WSA by 60 when brushing/rollering or 45 when spraying to determine the number of gallons necessary to reach 10 mils. For complete hull coverage calculate total surface area to be covered, then follow the division step.

    Easy to mix and roll

I used this on bare aluminum sanded with 80 grit paper. I applied it easily then was amazed at the hard, well-bonded coating. I then sanded with 220 grit the next morning and applied the finish paint.

    An excellent product!!

I used 2000e on a world cat that had been previously bottom painted. I soda blasted the bottom, then applied 2000e for an aesthetically pleasing look since I no longer want bottom paint on the boat. I've rolled it and sprayed it. It works well both ways, but if you have the option I would spray it, especially if you are doing large areas. This is a very durable product that dries quickly and sands nicely. FYI: I sanded it slick to attain better fuel mileage, but it didn't help the economy, so I would recommend applying it and letting it dry. Happy boating!

    Good

I had hundreds of small osmosis holes in a 30yo 8 metre fibre glass yacht hull. I took all old paint and anti foul off. Sanded. I cleaned hull and washed it every other day with clean water for a month. I let it dry for a month. I filled holes with interprotect. Sanded. Filled holes with interprotect. Sanded. Put on four or five coats of interprotect. Put on two coats of anti foul. When it came out eight months later hull was perfect. Now working on iron hull, starting in at two inches at bottom with rust.

    Nice stuff, easy coverage

Coating over epiglass on my blistered sailboat hull. I found this to go on easy. The grey over white coats and vice versa made full coverage easy. Tossed the roller covers and brushes after each coat. But acetone cleaned up other stuff well, probably could have saved a few brushes.

    Not a fan

The product does its job. That said, after I finished my project, I found that other manufacturers have better products. Pettit and Sea Hawk both have products that claim to require 2-3 coats, whearas Interprotect 2000E requires 5-6. For my next job, I will try the alternatives.

    Great for coating, fairing, protecting

Used the Interlux 2002E to paint the bottom of a J/24 after significant blister repair. It is a 2 part epoxy based paint, so be sure to mix the paint very thoroughly prior to application. Also added N2333 reducer (10% by volume) to help the paint to flow. Used a 6"" foam roller to apply, but had to change out the roller regularly, to keep it from gumming up or falling apart. Be sure to roll it on thick and to get good coverage. I have found it is better to go slowly, with very gentle pressure to reduce orange peal and roller lines. Work with small amounts and be sure to get is rolled on evenly. We put 4 coats on the J/24 with 2 Gallons of 2002E. Final sanding for a smooth finish is required. Can be over coated with a compatible anti-fouling paint or finish epoxy paint.

    easy to apply

I used this to reseal the bottom of an old Seafarer 26. Wasn't sure if it had ever been done in the past. Bought two colors so I could see the different coats. Didn't need to do that, it drys flat and you can see the overcoats easily. Covers well, a little more than I expected. Stinky to work with, make sure to wear a respirator. Turn the cans over and let them sit for a while before you use them. There is a lot of heavy material in this paint, can be a chore to mix the base layer. Also hard to be sure about the mix if you aren't mixing the full gallon at once.

    Interprotect 2000

This was a second boat I applied Interprotect 2000 to. This one is 32' 1964 fibeglass sloop with blister problem. Ground the previous coats down to bare gelcoat during winter to let the hull dry. Applied 5 coats Interprotect 2000 alternating gray and white. Since the hull temperature was about 44 deg F, thinned the product up to 10% with 2333N solvent. Used 3/8"" nap roller. Had to sand most of the last coat off since the stipple (orange peel) was pronounced. After sanding overcoated with VC17 - we sail in ""sweet"" water - Great Lakes.

    Don't use on deck

WE were advised to use this product on the deck since the prime coat did not cover crazing. the technical support said put perfection on top. LOOKED AWFUL. Next call to technical support said oh no never use perfection on top of inter protect. Must use prime coat. First tech said should never have used prime coat to cover crazing . Next call to tech support said I should have contacted tech support. Wish they would get story straight. Just spent 4 hours sanding (non) perfection off. I cannot recommend products or technical support. Don't know what to do with this mess now.

A lot of work but worth it!

Used the gray and the white overlapping to insure good coating of surfaces. A lot of work but built up a nice protective barrier on boat bottom in four coats. I have a 20' center console and used two gallons (A half gallon a coat for 4 good coats).

    Good stuff

This is the stuff if you want to prevent osmotic blisters. I was very happy that I got 3 thick coats out of a gallon on a 17' skiff. Read the warning label - get a respirator, tvek suit, gloves etc... Read the directions carefully for bottom prep & application. There are precise (and different) windows for overcoating with itself and overcoating with the first coat of paint. These windows change with heat & humidity. There's also a pot life - so make sure you'll use what you mix before it goes bad.

    Good Stuff

Product works just as advertised. I am impressed with the finish on my Whaler. Well worth the effort. Sands nice and is tough as nails. Fumes are very strong and could knock you out! I used it outside and fumes came in the house, and could be smelled almost anywhere within site of the boat. Would recommend using a lot of ventilation and a good mask, when applying or sanding. Fumes aside, this is a great product and performs exactly like Interlux claimed. Follow the simple directions, do the prep, and it's fool proof.

    My Can says...

My can says 5 hour recoat, upto 15 hours. After 15 hours you MUST sand. Not sure what the TWO WEEK recoat mentioned means...? Requires FOUR complete coats. It's alot of work and timing to get it right. BUT, once your done, your done. Vapors are toxic, I'm switching to FULL face mask. Change filters as soon as you can smell it! Believe me, it'll hit your lungs like a ton of bricks! I chose to persevere, big mistake.
