Q: null I accidentally got the Interlux Thinner for Spraying but I need the one for Brushing. Can this be used for Brushing or do I need to buy the other for Brushing? Thank you

1 Answer

A: I would not recommend brushing with it. It will evaporate too quickly. It would be fine for wipedown or clean up.

Q: null I've used Interlux 216 to clean butyl tape residue from my interlux Topsides painted cockpit deck surface before reinstalling a hatch cover. Will the 216 product have left some residue interfering with the bead of caulking I will place between the flange and deck in order to obtain a good seal when I install the new hatch cover? And if so, what should I use to clean off the 216 residual?

A: I have used this for surface prep and application of anti fouling paint. It works great. Per the material safety data sheet, its 25% ethyl benzene and 75% xylene. It contains no solids. Allow it to fully evaporate and there should be no remaining residue. Get Outlook for Android< https://aka.ms/ghei36>

Q: null I just painted the bottom of my boat with Interlux VC17. Unfortunately, the tape I used to mask off at waterline left an uneven edge is spots. I'd like to remove the overspray with a solvent, without harming my (painted) hull. Will this product do the job?

A: Not sure if this will safely remove overspray without harming the paint. I'd try a small spot first.

Q: null What is the difference between this product and MEK or acetone?

1 Answer

A: I am not a chemist so I cannot tell you exactly. I have been painting boats since 1966 though. 216 is designed to flash off just right, it works perfectly with Interlux products to produce excellent end results. It does not smell like MEK or Acetone, if you are trying to save a few dollars by not using this thinner you will be making a mistake. 216 will give you a predictable end result you will be pleased with.

Q: null what paints can this be used with?

1 Answer

A: Look on any Interlux can and it will tell you if this is the right thinner for it. I think 216 is for most of their one part paints but check the can of the paint you are going to use to be sure.

A: Don't try guessing which thinner to use. Look on the paint can and it will tell you what to use. 216 does not smell like lacquer thinner to me.
