Used to refinish sailboat's sole boards. Stripped to bare wood and sanded to a 220- grit finish. Thinned the first coat 10%. After three coats the finish was very even and nice but not as glossy as anticipated. Some areas appeared cloudy. Tried a fourth coat after light 320-grit hand sanding but had the same satin-like results. I had purchased two quarts so tried the second quart for a fifth coat and now have the expected high gloss and with no cloudiness. Came to the conclusion something just wasn't right with first quart. Recommend wearing a high-quality vapor respirator when applying this product and if used in an enclosed area to expect somewhat offensive off-gassing for, in my case, more than a week. Very pleased with final results.

Amazing Results

Used the satin finish on a reclaimed fir floor for my cabin. Needed a hard finish, as the wood was so soft and I wanted no splintering if in sock feet. It is gorgeous.....almost like an old wax finish. Product is super forgiving. Blends beautifully.

Q: Is this product UV resistant or provide UV protection?

2 Answers

A: I'm not sure if this helps, but we had Circa Polyurethane on our living room wood flooring for 16 years and did not notice any changes due to sunlight coming through the windows. We only refinished the floor due to buckling of the wood caused by moisture in our crawl space.

Q: Will this poly stand up to heat, such as a hot dinner plate, or paper plate? What about a hot pot or pan sitting on a towel, or pot holder

A: My gut tells me that polyurethane will suffer heat to a point after which they will likely discolor and perhaps bubble but that a hot coffee mug, hot dinner plate or paper plate shouldn't be a problem. In that I don't eat off the floor where I used the product I cannot back up my opinion with first hand experience.

A: Yes, but unless the manufacture states the product is non-yellowing, there is a risk of it yellowing over time.

Q: Has anybody had experience useing this product on live edge wood? Does it allow for wood movement? I have always used hand rubbed finishes but they are not strong enough for the restaurant table I am making which needs to stand up to hard use. I was thinking of useing semi gloss to mimic the hand rubbed finish a bit. Any thoughts?

Q: Would this product work ok on a stained wooden bar top with Chicago Bar Rail? Worried it may drip when applying to the bar rail?

A: This product was used on church pews that we partially refinished. We did the top part and the seat edge. If you don't overload the brush, we didn't have any drip or run problems. We restrained the area and when applying the Circa 1850 they looked like new again. So far, they show no wear.
