Product Details

Our rove punch is made of heavy steel and is an essential tool for neat copper nail and rove work. 5 in length. Traditional copper cut nails used with matching copper roves to form a copper rivet. These nails are extremely robust, easy to drive and when the wood fibers become damp and swell, will never work loose.

Copper roves are slightly conical washers. A copper nail is hammered through the joint, a rove is pushed over the end (concave side inward) and the nail is gently peened over forming a copper rivet assembly.

Q: Would your rove punch (which says 13 gauge ) work for 11 gauge nails?

A: 11 gauge is a larger diameter so it may not fit. You could drill it out, however.

Q: Hello Jamestown D, Will this rove punch handle the 3.5__quote__ copper common nails size number 8 which has a quarter inch diameter smooth shank that are 3.5' LONG? I MUST BE CERTAIN THEY WORK FOR i DON'T HAVE TIME TO PLAY. Sincerely, John Drum

A: The punch will handle about two inches of shaft. I assume some of the 3.5__quote__ will be consumed by the planks. However, I would not recommend this tool. I found the edges sharp and uncomfortable to hold while using. Instead, I found I was able to drill a hole in a hammer head to accomodate the shaft. Then use a larger bit to create a concave shape sufficient for the rove. Using a hammer head allowed some variety in shape and weight to accomodate personal preferences.

Q: Which Rove Punch do I need to a 10d copper nail?

A: I would not recommend these rove punches. I found the one I purchased uncomfortable to use with the corners. Instead, I made one out of a hammer head. Drilled a hole in it a little larger than my nail. I then used a larger bit to make a dimple to seat the rove. I found this worked much better than the punch I purchased
