Copper Nails are often used with Copper Burrs, also known as copper washers, to create a traditional copper rivet, similar to clinch or clench nailing. Copper rivets are often utilized in classic planked wooden boat construction.
See the "Burr Size Selector" chart below for burr and nail assembly suggestions.

These are what flint knapping pressure flakers use
a year ago
If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to what others charge, and don't mind nipping the head off yourself. Then these are what you need for your pressure flakers. It's better to pound the point in via a hammer and anvil to harden the copper. Perfect.

Love the copper nails

Not sure what you can say about these except Jamestown had the best price and they sure seem like good quality. Copper nails are a bit of a specialty item and that's where Jamestown excels.

Flint Knapping Resource
I am a beginning Flint Knapper ( Arrowheads, stone knife blades ) and had searched locally for a copper rod resource to make my own pressure flaking tool. These nails are PERFECT for making your own tips for Flint Knapping tools, and are long enough / thick enough that just one will last a long, long time. T-TOTALLY happy with this product.

Shipping Too High
It would be economical to purchase if USPS shipping via 'Flat Rate' envelope were utilized. UPS is way too high. You could ship three 1 pound boxes of nails ( at least, maybe even another ), in one Priority Flat Rate Padded envelope for $5.80 - anywhere in the U.S.A. - rather than ripping off the consumer for over $10.00 per box of shipping charges. I bet more people would buy if shipping were used that had reasonable prices. Just my thoughts. silysavg

Q: If I use 1-1/2 inch copper common nails on my project boat, what tool do I need to secure the burr?
4 years ago2 Answers
A: Hi Ed, I like to use a copper washer that has a fairly snug fit over the rivet. You can use copper roving too. Then I trim the rivet (or sometimes a copper nail) about 1/8- 3/16"" proud of the washer, depending on the diameter of the rivet/nail. Then I back up the head of the rivet/nail with the head of a sledge, while I tap the trimmed end wIt's a ball peen hammer. The copper sort of flattens out around the washer and cinches the lap tight the more you flatten it. It's tricky at first but goes along pretty quickly once you get a feel for it. Good luck, Scott

Q: are copper common nails 100% copper??
9 years ago4 Answers
A: Yes. I've been using copper nails for many years in my slate roofing trade. To the best of my knowledge they are 100% copper. Since copper, by nature, is a very malleable metal, the only way I could see another metal being used, is to make the nail more rigid. If this were the case, I'm sure it would be a very small percentage.

Q: will your copper nails kill a tree?
13 years ago7 Answers
A: A better way to kill a tree is to girdle it. At a foot or so off the ground cut a ring around the tree with a chainsaw. I usually cut just past the bark. This will dry out the tree and in a couple years you can come back, drop the tree, and have seasoned firewood. If you are looking to hang something from a tree you should not nail anything into it. Use wire or ratchet straps.

Q: I need only the head. This is to hide a screwhead below?
10 years ago2 Answers
A: I don't think the nails that I bought would cover a screw head very well but if you bought one with a larger head it might work.
