Product Details

West System G 5 Five Minute epoxy adhesive is an easy to use, 2 part resin and hardener system. G/5 is great for general bonding and quick repairs. It also works well for spot applications, holding parts in position while standard epoxy bonds cure. This fast curing adhesive bonds to properly prepared wood, fiberglass and metal surfaces.

G5 is not recommended for bonds subject to high loads or exposed to moisture. One to one mix ratio, no pumps or metering required. Cures in 3 to 5 minutes.

Q: null How warm does it have to be to use this G5 865A? In Fahrenheit please. Thank you.

A: Instructions indicate ""full strength after four hours at room temperature."" I think anything from 50-90 degrees Fahrenheit as"" room temperature"" would be acceptable. Humidity level should also be considered.

Q: null Hi would the g5 epoxy work good to glue glass/mirror to a metal frame? Thanks

A: I do not know, but the mirror material on the glass might be attacked by the Epoxy. The mirror material on the glass can/will degrade over time, just look at old mirrors and you may see the change. Generally mirrors are not glued to something, as far as I know, but I am no expert.

Q: null Can I use this epoxy and hardener to enclose a dried butterfly in a small sun-catcher? Can I use soft plastic for the mold?

A: It could work, but the problem would be to remove the air bubbles. A vacuum pump and chamber would help with the bubbles. You would like a long working time before the epoxy gets hard. So I would use a regular west system epoxy that takes longer to set up. You should defiantly try it , but be prepared for a learning curve, and several failures. I would use the 105 resin with the 209 extra slow hardener. That would give you the best chance of success. The electron microscopy technicians use an epoxy that cures with heat so they can get all the bubbles out and allow the epoxy to penetrate the specimen so it can be cut into sections. Another thought would be the bar top epoxy that you pour on and let set up. Good Luck and enjoy the journey.

Q: null Is this a gel type epoxy? I need an epoxy that will not drip.

A: This epoxy will drip, but you could try and ad silica to thicken it so it wouldn't.

Q: null What is the shelf life of the West Systems 5 minute epoxy?

3 Answers

A: One year shelf life is a good rule of thumb for most epoxies. That being said, I have stretched that by more than double on occasion. You should test a small amount to make sure it cures. However, to be on the safe side, always use fresh material. Toss it after a year. Your labor is worth far more than almost any materials you use. Martin O'Brien Wooden Artifact Conservator

Q: null tbe box states this product is water-resistant, yet on the web pages it says __quote__ NOT RECOMMENDED FOR BONDS SUBJECT TO MOISTURE__quote__. What is the correct answer? I'm planning on using this for an outdoor application. Also I purchased this at a marine supply store, so what gives.

A: Works great, sets in 5 min dependent on room temperature. Not sure about shelf life. If item you are bonding can absorbed moisture do not use.
