Q: null I have N>1 (don't recall how many) seacocks mounted to through hulls. They are NPS X NPT bronze valves - straight thread on the bottom and tapered on toip, both female. A friend is having to redo one of his, and for the life of me I can't find such a valve any more. 1.5"" bronze through-hull, backing plate shaped to hull to make perfect right angle with mounting nut, but nothing other than flanged valves seem available. Is there such a thing as NPS X NPT female bronze valves? And as there seems to be some opinion that if it DID exist, you shouldn't mount it. If that's so, why is that?

A: All the seacocks are NPS for the thru hull and NPT for the hose fitting and they all have a flange. Ball valves are just NPT on both fittings and will not work on thru hull fittings because the NPS thru hull will not screw all the way into the valve. If the hull isn't flat you would need to fabricate a backing plate to fit.

A: Size the thru hull/seacock to the hole in your boat. Size the tailpiece to the pump intake hosebarb.

A: You can continue to hope you are lucky without st least a flange adapter, but I wouldn't recommend it. Under NO circumstances should you use brass; use only bronze or marelon.
