Pettit EZ Bilge paint is a durable high-performance alkyd finish specially formulated to withstand the abuses associated with boat bilges. This hard-wearing finish resists abrasion, antifreeze, grease, gasoline, diesel fuel, and engine oil.

EZ Bilge will stand up to years of wear. Its high-solids formula is easy to apply by brush, roller or spray and provides excellent coverage. Apply over fiberglass, metal, wood, and existing enamel paints. Gray and white colors, available in quarts and gallons.

Used it in the bilge and lockers

I'm working in a heated building during the winter. Temperatures only get in the mid 60S. I used the white paint in the bilge, under the cabin sole and the anchor locker: ie: wherever moisture would accumulate. I also used it in the storage lockers and any dark recesses to help brighten them up and make cleaning easier. Plan on two coats and paint it on thin. This paint is thin and will run, so any slope will pool excess paint which will then require days to dry. Excessive pooling has required me to wipe it off and repaint. Hardens very hard.

Petit EZ bilge - not just for bilges

I used this product in conjunction with the performance enhancer to paint the inside of a wooden boat I am building. Using a low Knap roller and no tipping brush I got a great, smooth finish that is rock hard - and is standing up nicely to the rigors of boat construction very well. After floor boards are in it will see less abuse not more -

Questions

1 - 4 of 4 Questions

Q: null My bilge is wet. Is this paint okay immersed 100% of the time?

1 Answer

A: Gelcoat or epoxy barrier coat would probably be a better option for continuous submersion. EZ Bilge will hold up for a while but the submerged portion will deteriorate more quickly than parts above the waterline.

Q: null Should this be used with a primer - I'm using this to cover the bottom of a wooden sailboat that has some exposed wood, other areas embedded with the original epoxy paint.

A: I believe it is self priming if you do 2 coats. Instructions should be on label. I have a can at home but I'm at Hilton Head until Friday afternoon.
