Product Details

TotalBilge is a long-lasting, epoxy-based bilge paint specifically formulated to protect your bilge, bulkhead, and locker areas. The constant exposure to harmful marine elements like heat, humidity, mildew, grease and grime requires a superior bilge barrier solution to resist moisture and repel most oils, acids, alkyds and solvents right on the spot.

When compared to the top brand name bilge paints, TotalBilge stands up to the test. The single-component paint is easy to apply, dries quickly, and provides excellent coverage with a much harder surface finish. In addition, TotalBilge is easy to clean and does not lift, mildew, or stain over time.

Available in Gray & White colors, in Quart and Gallon sizes.

Not durable

Goes on thin and dried OK but chipped pretty easily and this was a newly reconstructed bilge. Maybe there was residual wax or something but I cleaned and sanded pretty good. Went with Majic implement alkyd with the hardner and it's doing better

Great product and super durable

I am restoring an older Grady White and tried to clean the bilges as best as possible, but that never is usually good enough after years of dirt and water. However, I applied the bilge coat and it worked great. It needs at least (2) coats, but looks great. I am only using Total Boat on my project and can't be happier.

Not only is it great for bilges, but it can be used anywhere a hard protective paint is needed.

Great coverage and looks good

Given the somewhat mixed reviews I was a bit skeptical but my results are excellent and I'm happy with the product. I did have to paint in rather low temperatures which I'm sure slowed the drying process but I just left it for a week and it was completely dry when I returned. I was painting new glass so a second coat was in order and it too dried well.

Took forever to dry and I'm still not sure it is completely. I bought 2 quarts and the color difference between the two was extreme. Make sure you mix.

I have bought this again!

I've been using it in the sail locker and other storage areas. It goes on easily and depending on the color/condition of what's underneath, one coat is often enough. I haven't tried it in the actual bilge yet, although I noted an answer to one of the questions which stated that it isn't suitable for continuous submersion in water - strange for bilge paint! Anyway, I just ordered another gallon so I guess that says enough.

Results Looking Good

We used the TotalBoat TotalBilge Epoxy paint to refinish a concrete birdbath that we and the birds have grown fond of. Our last refinish was with a two-part epoxy, with reasonable results. However, from the time the first brush of TotalBilge Epoxy hit the concrete, it appears to be a superior product. After nearly a month of use, including two freeze events, this refinish job remains unfazed by the water, the sun, the frost, and the bird droppings. Time will tell, but things certainly look promising a month into the refinish job. We did take special care to repair several cracks with epoxy, and to either remove the prior paint or to rough it up thoroughly for best adhesion of the TotalBilge Epoxy.

Epoxy Bilge Paint

Was pleasantly surprised on how well this product performs in application, coverage and black and white hiding capabilities. Boat project is still ongoing so do not know yet how product will perform once in actual use with your typical bilge liquids. Only negative is its dry time, a little too slow, wish it was faster (i.e. 4 - 6 hrs @ 60F) dry thru time.

Q: Can epoxy bilge paint be applied over an Easy Fair repair on wood.

1 Answer

A: Yes, you can apply Total Bilge on top of Easy Fair. EPOXY SURFACES: • Epoxy substrates need to be fully cured for at least 5-7 days prior to any surface preparation or before applying TotalBilge. • Once cured, the epoxy must be washed with a mild soap and warm water, then rinsed well to remove any possible amine blush, whether noticeable or not. This must be performed, even if the epoxy is considered non-blushing, or does not appear to have an amine blush on the surface. • Dry the surface completely. • Sand the surface with 220-grit or 320-grit sandpaper. • Remove any sanding residue by wiping the surface clean with a clean, lint-free cotton rag wetted with one of the specified cleaner/surface preparation solvents. • Allow the surface to dry completely before applying TotalBilge, as directed

Q: I have an older model Sea Ray boat and have stuck with the polyester laminating and finishing resins for repairs and added reinforcements. If I use the epoxy based Total Bilge paint am I committing to switching over to epoxy resins on future repairs on the painted areas or will polyester resins be compatible if the area of repair or reinforcement is scuff sanded and cleaned. Dust control in my winter work space is always a challenge so complete paint removal when abrading the surface is not always practical. And if the epoxy based paint is not compatible with the polyester resins then is there a different paint that would be compatible that would be suitable for the bilge, fuel tank compartment, and locker areas. Lastly, if the bilge paint were used to coat some spot repairs on the floor/sole of the boat (under carpet) would standard marine carpet adhesive bond to the bilge paint. Thanks
